The workshop announced proposals from five research units within the framework of the LIXIL ALP 2023-2024 program, demonstrating the approach of architects contributing to the “Rejuvenation of Urban Areas,” enhancing the living space quality for Vietnamese people. The topics include:
Firstly, C-TOWN Urban Area subject : Aiming to holistically address the residential environment challenges faced by low-income and immigrant residents in large cities through a pilot study in Thanh My Loi ward, Thu Duc city, Ho Chi Minh City.
Secondly, Sustainable Urban Regeneration subject : Developing adaptive industrial heritage: PVCHB Company explores solutions to transform industrial heritage spaces into new creative cultural spaces, ensuring a harmonious balance between economic, socio-cultural, and environmental aspects.
Thirdly, Awakening “Place” in the City subject : Through the specific example of renovating a traffic roundabout in Long Bien district, Hanoi. Think Playgrounds proposed optimizing space, ensuring both the function of regulating vehicle traffic and creating public spaces serving the community.
Fourthly, Landfill Conversion into Green Park subject : A case study of Go Cat Landfill in Ho Chi Minh City: By combining eco-environmental technical solutions, TA Landscape Architecture Vietnam aims to transform polluted landfills into green parks.
Fifthly, Renewal of Tube Houses – Mini Building subject : Based on a new perspective on tube houses, VUUV Company seeks architectural solutions to turn these houses into spaces for not only living but also business, services, and transition in the context of increasing technical and safety requirements.

Mr. Uchidate Katsuaki, General Director of LIXIL Vietnam, and representative of the Founding and Organizing Unit, shared: “ALP is a long-term vision program of LIXIL Vietnam. LIXIL ALP 2023-2024, with the theme of ‘Rejuvenation of Urban Areas,’ aims to address the practical challenges of urban areas, from regenerating public spaces to developing sustainable housing. LIXIL believes that these contributions will lay an important foundation for the future development of Vietnamese urban areas.”
“In the following seasons, we will continue to implement LIXIL ALP Vietnam Living Space Future with more diverse themes, forms, and multi-party cooperation methods to deeply address pressing issues, find solutions with high universality and applicability, and contribute to building a better future for everyone, everywhere,” he emphasized.
On behalf of the Professional Patronage Unit, Architect Dang Kim Khoi, Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Architects, said: “With the theme of ‘Rejuvenation of Urban Areas,’ the LIXIL ALP program this year reaches out to many beneficiaries, from residents to architects, managers, investors, etc. I expect that after the program ends, it will help improve the quality of life for the community and preserve and restore the values of social identity in the context of economic development and rapid urbanization.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Architect Pham Thuy Loan, Strategic Planning Expert of NSW, Australia, and Former Vice President of the National Institute of Architecture, Ministry of Construction, added: “I believe that every journey starts with the first steps. LIXIL ALP 2023-2024 is an intellectual playground for architects, engineers, planners, researchers, and architectural practitioners to find and introduce new ideas to promote the process of rejuvenating Vietnamese cities.”
In addition to announcing the research results, the program also featured a technology exhibition by cooperating units, introducing creative solutions to enhance the quality of life. Advanced technology is also part of the future living space, contributing to building smart and sustainable cities.
Through the discussion, experts and architects shared the view that “Rejuvenation of Urban Areas” is a necessary and urgent issue to enhance the quality of living spaces. Solving this challenge requires the involvement of managers, investors, architects, and the community. As a result, the proposed solutions will be closer to reality, addressing the renewal and transformation of urban spaces.
It is known that LIXIL Architecture Leader Perspective (LIXIL ALP) was initiated and organized by LIXIL Vietnam in 2016, under the patronage of the Vietnam Association of Architects, aiming to support, connect, and develop the Architecture – Design – Construction community through multi-party and multi-field collaborations, together towards long-term social goals. In 2021-2022, LIXIL ALP was renewed with the consistent goal of finding solutions for the Future of Vietnam’s Living Spaces.
