Vietnam’s Data Center Market Attracts Investment Interest

According to Research and Markets, Vietnam’s data center market is expected to reach $1.03 billion by 2028 and $1.26 billion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of 10.8%. Data center projects are attracting interest from both domestic and foreign investors.

Specifically, Saigon Telecommunication Technology Corporation (Saigontel) has proposed to the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee and relevant units to implement a data center project in Tan Phu Trung Industrial Park, Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City.

The Management Board of Export Processing Zones and Industrial Parks in Ho Chi Minh City has also issued Document No. 3081/BQL-DT to the Ho Chi Minh City Trade and Investment Promotion Center, stating that Saigontel’s proposed data center project in Tan Phu Trung Industrial Park is in line with the city’s investment attraction orientation and the planning of Tan Phu Trung Industrial Park.

Data centers are an area of interest for domestic and foreign investors.

In addition to the above project, Ho Chi Minh City is also calling for investment in a data center project in the High-Tech Park. This project has attracted the interest of five large investors, including CMC Corporation (Vietnam); Evolution Group (Singapore); NTT Data Group (Japan); Hyosung Group (South Korea); and the joint venture between Coteccons Company (Vietnam) and Eaton (USA).

Viettel also has a data center in Viettel Hoa Lac (Hanoi), with 60,000 servers, more than 2,400 racks, and 21,000 square meters of floor space. This is currently the largest data center in Vietnam. The corporation is also investing in building another data center in Ho Chi Minh City, with an investment of VND 14,700 billion, expected to be operational by Q4 2025.

FPT Telecom is developing the HN03 data center, with a total investment of VND 3,000 billion before tax, expected to be implemented from 2024 to 2032. In addition, the company currently has three operating data centers and two projects under construction in Ho Chi Minh City and Danang.

With the above-mentioned interest in the data center industry, many research units consider Vietnam to be one of the fastest-growing markets in the world. Some statistics show that Vietnam currently has 32 small and medium-sized data centers, with a total of more than 20,000 racks.

It is calculated that Vietnam needs to invest in building three medium-sized data centers each year to meet the actual demand.

The development of data centers is part of Vietnam’s Digital Infrastructure Strategy for 2025 and vision for 2030, which aims to build and develop the country’s digital infrastructure on par with developed countries, with a priority for development and protection similar to that of transportation and energy infrastructure.
