A vendor named Anh Hùng, who sells golden-coated kumquat trees at Tân Mai market, shared that the trees selected for this process are of the highest quality, known as “tuyển” grade. These trees boast beautiful shapes and an abundance of large, uniform fruits.

Anh Hồ Chí Nam, the craftsman responsible for gold-coating the kumquat trees, explained that each tree typically takes about half a day to complete. While the process is not overly complicated, it demands careful attention to detail and precision.

According to Anh Nam, it takes between 1,500 and 2,000 leaves of 24-karat industrial gold to create one of these golden kumquat trees. The price of each tree ranges from 2 to 4.5 million VND, depending on its size.

Nam went on to explain the cultural significance of kumquat trees during the Lunar New Year celebrations. Traditionally, families would display a kumquat tree in their homes, symbolizing prosperity, abundance, and good fortune. Nowadays, people also exchange these trees as meaningful gifts, and the addition of gold coating elevates their perceived value and luxury.

Anh Hùng, the vendor at Tân Mai market, described the golden kumquat trees as a unique product that was introduced just this year. The 24-karat industrial gold leaves used for coating the trees and pots are commonly employed in interior decoration and household items, offering the same durability and luster as genuine gold.

Locals are intrigued by the luxurious appeal of these golden kumquat trees, which carry a price tag of several million VND each.
