In its first month of official operation, from December 22, 2024, to January 22, 2025, the Metro Line 1 recorded 2,926,468 passengers, exceeding the target by 236% compared to the plan. On the first two days of paid services (January 21 and 22), the number of passengers reached over 98,114.

Ms. Van Thi Huu Tam, Deputy Director of Urban Railway One Member Co., Ltd (HURC1), shared this information.

On the morning of January 23, at the National University station, many passengers reported issues with the online ticket payment app between 7:30 and 8:00 AM. Ms. Tam assured that the problem was promptly resolved, and during the system glitch, station staff sold tickets manually to ensure uninterrupted service.

HURC1 announced that passengers could opt for cashless payments by tapping their bank cards (EMV cards) or scanning QR codes from the HCMC Metro app at the ticket gates. Additionally, the MoMo e-wallet will be integrated into the payment system from January 24, allowing passengers to scan QR codes directly at the station’s reading devices.

HURC1 also shared that other e-wallets would be integrated in the future, with specific announcements upon completion. For time-based tickets, such as one-day, three-day, or monthly passes, passengers need to register an account on the HCMC Metro app, make payments, and purchase tickets. They will then receive an electronic QR code directly from the app, which they can scan at the QR code readers at the ticket gates to board the train.

HURC1 emphasized that paper tickets are only for passengers who cannot use the HCMC Metro app or bank cards. The company discourages the purchase of manual paper tickets. For a seamless journey, passengers are encouraged to use the HCMC Metro app or contactless card payments for single, one-day, three-day, or monthly tickets.
