According to the Hanoi Electricity Corporation (EVNHANOI), the city’s power consumption hit an all-time high, peaking at 5,988 MW on August 4th, 2025, at 1:20 PM.

Notably, in just the first four days of August, power consumption increased by 1,300 MW (nearly 27%), indicating that electricity demand is still high.

EVNHANOI stated that these figures clearly reflect the impact of weather on electricity consumption habits, especially among residential customers, who account for the largest proportion of electricity usage.

With outdoor temperatures consistently hovering between 37-39°C, appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, and electric fans have to work harder and longer to maintain their cooling efficiency. This results in higher electricity consumption, even if usage time remains unchanged.

EVNHANOI urges customers, government offices, and production facilities to join hands in practicing energy conservation and efficiency. They recommend turning off unnecessary electrical appliances and avoiding using high-power equipment during peak hours, from 12 PM to 3 PM and 10 PM to midnight daily.

Adjusting Electricity Consumption Behavior in Hanoi

Customers are also advised to use air conditioners judiciously (setting temperatures at 26°C or higher and using them in conjunction with fans). Additionally, using energy-efficient appliances and regularly maintaining air conditioners and refrigerators are effective ways to reduce power consumption.

According to EVNHANOI, residents should proactively monitor their daily electricity consumption through the power company’s customer care ecosystem. These platforms enable customers to check meter readings, compare consumption across periods, and set alert thresholds to receive timely notifications when electricity usage exceeds allowable limits.

“This is an effective solution for people to adjust their electricity usage behavior from the start, instead of being surprised by their bill at the end of the month,” EVNHANOI recommended.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting on August 4th, Northern provinces (except Lai Chau and Dien Bien), from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang, the Eastern region of Quang Ngai to Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa are experiencing intense heat, with some localities suffering from extreme heat.

Temperatures at 1 PM today were mostly between 36-38°C, with some places exceeding 38°C. Specifically, the Hoa Binh station in Phu Tho province recorded 39.3°C, Lang station in Hanoi recorded 39.1°C, Phuc Ly station in Ninh Binh recorded 38.2°C, Ha Tinh station recorded 38.2°C, and Hoai Nhon station in Gia Lai recorded 38.9°C.
