The HHIT port can accommodate two large container ships simultaneously, each with a capacity of up to 200,000 DWT (≥ 18,000 TEU)

The project for berths 5 and 6 of the Lach Huyen port area, developed by the Investment Group, spans an area of 73 hectares. The port can accommodate two large container ships at once, each with a capacity of up to 200,000 DWT (≥ 18,000 TEU) and a maximum length of 400 meters. After more than 30 months of construction and over 3 million safe working hours, the project was completed two months ahead of schedule.

On February 6, the Hateco Hai Phong International Container Terminal (HHIT) welcomed its first commercial ship. The project was officially inaugurated on April 5.

This is Vietnam’s first smart port, equipped with an automatic gate system and semi-automatic wharves, capable of receiving the world’s largest container ships and operating direct routes to distant regions such as the West and East coasts of the US, Europe, and India.

Since its launch, the port’s operational efficiency has grown impressively, achieving a throughput of 30 containers per hour.

Mr. Tran Van Ky, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hateco Group, proposed to the People’s Committee of the city to soon commence construction on a road connecting berths 3 to 6 and the Tan Vu-Lach Huyen 2 Bridge. He also requested the city to promptly report to the Ministry of Construction to urgently invest in expanding the Lach Huyen channel and supplement the turning basin in front of berths 5 and 6 to ensure safe navigation for 200,000 DWT vessels.

In addition, the Hateco Group expressed its interest in researching and implementing new projects, including the Tien Lang Airport Industrial Park (Zone A), industrial parks in the southern economic zone of Hai Phong, Binh Giang 2 and 4 Industrial Parks, Tu Ky 1 Industrial Park, Hung Dao Industrial Park, inland ports in Ninh Giang (Luoc River), mixed-use commercial and residential areas, and the Tien Lang logistics center.

Leaders of departments and sectors, such as the Management Board of the Economic Zone, the Project Management Board for Transport and Agricultural Construction Investment, the Department of Finance, the Department of Construction, and the Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority, discussed and clarified the proposals of the Hateco Group. The road connecting berths 3 to 6 is expected to commence construction in August. The investor commits to shortening the construction time as much as possible to soon put the project into operation, facilitating the movement of vehicles to and from the port.

Regarding the proposal to expand the channel and supplement the turning basin, the city has requested the Ministry of Construction, and they are currently submitting it to the Prime Minister. The project has been included in the medium-term public investment plan for the 2026-2030 period and is expected to be submitted to the National Assembly for approval at the next meeting. Given the urgency, after approval, the city will urge the concerned units to promptly implement the construction.

Concerning the need for housing for experts and workers, the Management Board of the Cat Hai Special Economic Zone and relevant units have introduced several locations for businesses to choose from for investment. The authorities pledged to accompany and support enterprises during the research and implementation of projects following regulations.

After directly inspecting the operation of HHIT port and listening to reports and proposals from departments and sectors, Mr. Le Ngoc Chau, Chairman of the People’s Committee of the city, highly appreciated the investment scale, implementation speed, and operational capacity of the Hateco Hai Phong International Container Terminal. Despite being newly operational, the port has received the largest container ships to date, affirming the increasingly important position of Hai Phong port system in the global supply chain and contributing positively to the city’s socio-economic development.

The Chairman of the People’s Committee of the city requested the Hateco Group and HHIT port to continue close coordination with the People’s Committee of the city and related departments to unify the content of reports and proposals to the central ministries and sectors for the early implementation of traffic and maritime infrastructure projects. Regarding the proposed investment projects, the Group should promptly work with the Department of Construction and the Management Board of the Economic Zone to unify the implementation roadmap. For the plan to build housing for workers, the Group should quickly choose from the introduced locations and report to the People’s Committee of the city for consideration and approval.

The Chairman of the People’s Committee of the city also proposed that the Hateco Group select typical products and impressive models to participate in the exhibition area at the exhibition “Hai Phong – Belief and Aspiration to Soar with the Country” on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the National Day (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025)
