The highly anticipated entry of Apple into the foldable smartphone market is nearing as the company prepares to unveil its strategic weapon, the iPhone Fold.

According to Samik Chatterjee, an analyst from JP Morgan, Apple plans to launch its foldable iPhone in September 2026. In a note to investors, Chatterjee shared, “With the upgrades to the iPhone 17 lineup expected to be minor, investors have shifted their focus to the 2026 fall lineup. Apple is anticipated to unveil its first foldable iPhone with a book-like design, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series.”

The iPhone Fold is rumored to feature a book-like design, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold.

Chatterjee predicts that the iPhone Fold could be priced at $1,999 USD (approximately 52 million VND), which is $500 USD lower than previous estimates. With this competitive pricing strategy, Apple forecasts sales of 10 to 15 million units in the 2027 fiscal year and even reaching 40 million units by 2029. The potential revenue is estimated to be as high as $65 billion.

According to sources, the iPhone Fold will adopt a book-like design, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold. However, Apple is expected to introduce a new screen ratio to offer an iPad-like experience when unfolded. Additionally, the device may feature a crease-free screen technology, addressing a long-awaited desire of foldable smartphone users.

While Samsung currently dominates the foldable smartphone market, Apple’s entry is expected to bring a fresh perspective. The iPhone Fold is anticipated to boost not only Apple’s growth but also spur demand across the entire foldable smartphone segment, fostering industry-wide development.

Apple’s strategic pricing and production cost optimization showcase the company’s ambition in the race to shape the future of smartphones. The iPhone Fold promises to be a game-changer, not just a breakthrough device, as it prompts the market to rethink the boundaries of mobile technology.
