Van Don is one of the two special administrative regions of Quang Ninh Province. This land was once home to the first thriving trading port in Vietnamese history.
Recently, Van Don has witnessed unprecedented growth opportunities with a slew of massive projects making their way to the region.
First and foremost is the Van Don High-end Tourism, Resort, and Entertainment Complex , a project approved by the Prime Minister on June 27, 2025. With a minimum investment of 2 billion USD , it boasts the largest investment in the special zone to date.
Spanning an area of 244.45 hectares, the project aims to develop a premium tourism, resort, and entertainment complex with international-standard event venues, transforming Van Don into a world-class destination.
The project encompasses a range of activities, including casino operations, real estate, tourism services, hotels, resorts, commercial centers, offices, conferences, sports facilities, entertainment, and high-quality healthcare services.
Prior to this, the People’s Committee of Quang Ninh officially approved the Monbay Van Don High-end Resort, Entertainment, Golf, and Residential Complex . This project boasts a total investment of 24,883 billion VND (equivalent to 1 billion USD) and covers an area of approximately 299.64 hectares. It is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2030.

Additionally, the special zone has attracted interest from investors in the aviation, tourism, and service industries. A notable example is the recently licensed Sun Phu Quoc Airways , which has chosen Van Don International Airport as its main hub.
With an investment of 2,500 billion VND , Sun Phu Quoc Airways will operate a full-service model combined with charter services, catering to high-end passengers. The airline’s presence in Van Don will boost regional connectivity, promote tourism, and open up new development and investment opportunities for the region.
Van Don International Airport is fully equipped with modern infrastructure and facilities to support the new airline’s operations.

Beyond being an international gateway, Van Don is accelerating its vision to become a multi-sectoral maritime economic zone, integrating casinos, premium tourism, entertainment industries, logistics, and comprehensive services.
According to development orientations, Van Don aims for an average growth rate of 25-30% by 2030, with a total output value of 5.6 billion USD.
