From August 1st to October 31st, 2025, passengers will be allowed to bring their foldable bikes onboard the Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien) within the scope of the service usage.

Combining Personal and Public Transportation

This is part of a recent announcement made by HCMC Metro Line 1 Limited Company to implement the Prime Minister’s Directive No. 20/CT-TTg dated July 12th, 2025, on urgent tasks to prevent and address environmental pollution, while also assessing the feasibility of combining personal and public transportation.

From August 1st, residents can bring foldable bikes on Metro Line 1

Specifically, during the period from August 1st to October 31st, 2025, passengers on Metro Line 1 will be allowed to carry their foldable bikes, provided that the bikes are folded and placed in a specialized bag, and are only used for transportation. They cannot be ridden, walked, or opened for movement within the station area or on the train. The foldable bikes must meet the specified dimensions, not exceeding 120 x 70 x 40 cm, and must not obstruct the common space on the train, while also ensuring absolute safety during the journey.

Throughout the journey, passengers are responsible for controlling and taking care of their foldable bikes. Bikes must not collide with technical equipment or infrastructure in the station and train areas to avoid damaging the structures. In addition, passengers must also strictly comply with the operator’s regulations on safety and public behavior when participating in this pilot model.

A Necessary Step

According to Ms. Van Thi Huu Tam, Deputy Director of HCMC Metro Line 1 Limited Company, the implementation of allowing foldable bikes onboard aims to assess the actual needs of the people and the feasibility of replicating this model in the future. This is also a necessary step to promote the combination of compact personal vehicles with modern and environmentally friendly public transportation systems, contributing to the formation of an integrated, convenient, efficient, and safer urban transportation network.

The operator of Metro Line 1 also expressed their hope to receive the cooperation and support of passengers to ensure the safety and civility of this pilot model, thereby creating a basis for future official implementations.

ShopeePay Comes to Metro Line 1 from August 4th

From August 4th, 2025, passengers on Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien) can use the ShopeePay e-wallet to make direct payments at the ticket control gates at the stations. This new cashless payment method is implemented by HCMC Metro Line 1 Limited Company in cooperation with ShopeePay Joint Stock Company to promote the application of modern technology and enhance the passenger experience.

To use this feature, passengers need to log in to the ShopeePay application, select the “QR Payment/Receive Money” option on the homepage, enter their wallet password or use face recognition to display the payment QR code. Then, users choose the source of money from the ShopeePay wallet and scan the QR code at the ticket control gates.

Regarding the collection and refund process, when scanning the QR code at the entrance gate, the system will temporarily charge 19,000 VND (as a valid wallet confirmation). When passengers scan the code at the exit gate, the system will automatically calculate the actual travel distance, deduct the corresponding amount, and refund the difference (if any) to the user’s ShopeePay wallet.

Each ShopeePay account is only valid for one passenger per trip. For inquiries related to transactions, passengers can contact ShopeePay’s hotline at 1900.6906.

The operator of Metro Line 1 expects that this electronic payment method will contribute to enhancing the convenience for users and promoting the habit of cashless payments in public transportation in Ho Chi Minh City.
