Proposed Location for Gia Binh Airport Construction
In accordance with the Central Government’s directive on the policy to invest in the construction of a road connecting Gia Binh Airport (Bac Ninh Province) to Hanoi, the Hanoi People’s Committee has assigned the Department of Planning and Architecture to take the lead, in collaboration with relevant departments, units, and Bac Ninh Province, as well as the Transport Engineering Design and Consultancy Joint Stock Company (TEDI) – the unit assigned by the Ministry of Transport to research the construction options – to study the construction options for the road.
The Hanoi People’s Committee basically agreed on Option 1 as reported and proposed by the Department of Planning and Architecture for the road connecting Gia Binh Airport to the city center of Hanoi (the section within Hanoi’s territory). This option involves constructing a new elevated road north of the Hanoi-Lao Cai railway, connecting to the intersection between the Hanoi-Lang Son Expressway and Ring Road 3. The route will then follow Ring Road 3 and connect with the Tu Lien Bridge approach to the capital’s center.
The total length of the entire route from Bac Ninh to Hanoi is approximately 49.52 km. Of this, the section within Hanoi’s territory is about 28.58 km (including approximately 8.06 km of new construction and about 20.52 km overlapping with the Hanoi-Thai Nguyen Expressway/Ring Road 3 and the Tu Lien Bridge).
According to the announcement, Hanoi and Bac Ninh agreed on a width of approximately 100-120 meters for the entire connection from Gia Binh Airport (Bac Ninh Province) to the center of Hanoi (preferring 120 meters to match Bac Ninh’s planned adjustment from 142 meters to 120 meters). They also agreed to expand the study of urban development space along both sides of the route to 300-400 meters.
Additionally, they agreed to propose and report to the competent authorities to update and implement the investment in the construction of the Trung Mau Station in Phase 1 of the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong railway project. They also agreed to propose a study on the orientation and development of an urban railway line along the road connecting Gia Binh Airport to the center of Hanoi (to be implemented in later phases) to connect with Urban Railway Line No. 01 (Yen Vien – Ngoc Hoi) and the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong railway.
There was also an agreement to shift the connecting road section from Gia Binh Airport to the center of Hanoi southward by about 100 meters, along with the corresponding adjustment of the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong railway section adjacent to the VSHIP Bac Ninh Industrial Park (to avoid impacting the industrial park).
