Regarding the recent public reaction to the notion that the New Sun Park (in Nhat Tan Ward, Tay Ho District, Hanoi) would be “eradicated” and replaced with a pickleball sports complex, a representative from the Hanoi Entertainment Services Joint Stock Company (Haseco) clarified that there are no plans to eliminate the park.
The New Sun Park spans 1.7 hectares within the 7.9-hectare West Lake Park. It features land-based amusement rides such as the Steel Dragon, Crazy Way, Octopus, Giant Ferris Wheel, and Spiral Ferris Wheel, which have been in operation from 2000 to 2020. The New Sun Park temporarily halted its operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the owners also initiated a process to adjust the master plan for West Lake Park.
Giant Ferris Wheel – the iconic attraction of the New Sun Park
On April 9, 2024, the Hanoi People’s Committee issued a decision approving the detailed planning of the West Lake Water Park and the New Sun Park, at a scale of 1/500 (adjusting the master plan for the West Lake Amusement Park).
According to the newly approved planning in 2024, the Giant Ferris Wheel will be replaced with a newer and more modern version to meet the entertainment needs of the people.
A distant view of the New Sun Park
Regarding the removal of the Sun Wheel located within the New Sun Park, Haseco clarified that in the newly approved planning for 2024, the Giant Ferris Wheel is one of the approved projects. Haseco will prioritize replacing this equipment with a newer and more modern Giant Ferris Wheel.
Therefore, there is no truth to the claim that this equipment or the park itself will be “eradicated” or “disappear.” “Haseco has no policy and does not intend to change the land use purpose or lease the land to other units,” the representative added.
According to the investigation by the Tien Phong newspaper, in April 2024, the Hanoi People’s Committee issued a decision approving the detailed planning of the West Lake Water Park and the New Sun Park at a scale of 1/500 to adjust the master plan for the West Lake Amusement Park.
The total planning area is nearly 80,000 square meters. The nature of the park is a specialized amusement park with a water park theme. Its functions include: Water Park Area (renovated and upgraded based on existing facilities); Outdoor Games Area (renovated and upgraded based on existing facilities); and Auxiliary Services and Amusement Area.
A notable aspect of the planning is the addition of a sports service house spanning over 620 square meters, along with an indoor entertainment and gaming area totaling nearly 1,600 square meters (both areas are designed with two floors). Additionally, a parking lot spanning 1,468 square meters, including one ground floor and three underground floors, will be constructed.
