Embracing the spirit of “Government and people working together,” the movement to donate land for roads and public works has been enthusiastically received by the people of Hoa Khuong commune, Hoa Vang district. Many households have voluntarily contributed hundreds of square meters of land and labor to build transportation infrastructure, contributing to the success of the new rural development movement and fostering socio-economic development in the area.

Previously, the inter-village road in Go Ha village, Hoa Khuong commune, was over 1 km long, narrow, dusty during dry seasons, and muddy during rains. In late 2023, when the government announced its plan to expand it into an urban road, the locals wholeheartedly supported the initiative. The government invested in road construction and provided 50% compensation for land acquisition. The people donated the remaining 50% of the land value. This project had a total investment of nearly VND 15 billion from the city budget allocated to the district. Mr. Le Van Lai, a resident of Hoa Khuong commune, shared his experience of donating land for road expansion, stating that the new road was inaugurated just three days ago, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Da Nang city. The locals are thrilled to have a broader, more comfortable road that facilitates their travel.
“The government’s plan resonated with the people, and they are delighted. Both the district and the city did a great job advocating for the road expansion, and the community readily supported it. The road used to be narrow, but now it’s beautiful and spacious, transforming the rural landscape. The road’s inauguration also marked the 50th anniversary of Da Nang’s liberation. Now, it has sidewalks, trees, and well-organized electricity poles. My family donated 64 square meters, and although the government provided minimal support for rebuilding our fence, it was a joint effort. There were some sacrifices, but the long-term benefit is convenient transportation for our children and future generations,” said Mr. Le Van Lai.

Ms. Pham Thi Mai from Hoa Khuong voluntarily donated 206 square meters of land for the project to upgrade and renovate the road leading to the Da Nang Martyrs’ Cemetery
The movement to donate land for roads has spread widely among the people of Hoa Vang district. Ms. Pham Thi Mai from Phu Son Nam village, Hoa Khuong commune, voluntarily contributed 206 square meters of land for the project to upgrade and renovate the road leading to the Da Nang Martyrs’ Cemetery without seeking any compensation. Ms. Pham Thi Mai shared, “This land was purchased by my husband and me through years of hard work and savings. However, for the common good, our family agreed to donate the land without considering personal gains or losses. The land value amounts to billions of dong. As a family with a policy background and a martyr relative, I donated 206 square meters. While the monetary value is significant, we did not consider it when we voluntarily decided to contribute. My husband and I bought this land for our children’s future, but since it falls within the project area, we wholeheartedly agreed to donate it.”
The success of the land donation campaign in Hoa Vang district is attributed to the promotion of democratic spirit. All project information was disclosed transparently, and the local authorities organized meetings to hear the thoughts, feelings, and aspirations of the people. For households that did not initially agree, the local government and respected individuals in the community approached them to explain and build trust, leading to their eventual support. In Hoa Vang district, Da Nang city, hundreds of households have voluntarily contributed thousands of square meters of residential and agricultural land for road expansion over the years. Most of these generous donors did not seek any compensation from the state.

Mr. Bui Nam Dung, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hoa Vang district, Da Nang city, shared, “Since the construction of the new concrete roads, the people of Hoa Vang have been very excited, and the alleys and villages have become more beautiful and clean. The new roads have made travel more convenient for the locals, transforming the rural landscape. The completion of these roads has brought about a noticeable change in the rural and urban areas, and the people are delighted. Hoa Vang district aims to become an urban district of type 4, and to achieve this, all roads in the district must be upgraded to urban roads. The people have shown strong support for this goal by donating land for road expansion. We have just inaugurated the Go Quang road to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Da Nang’s liberation. This project is a testament to the collaboration between the people and the government in building urban roads. The people contributed 50% of the land value, while the government provided compensation for structures on the land and supported the remaining 50%.”
