In a recent investor meeting held on August 7, BAF reported that over 970 ASF outbreaks have occurred in more than 710 communes across 33 out of 63 provinces and cities since the beginning of the year. This has resulted in the death and culling of over 100,000 pigs. The illegal trading, transportation, slaughtering, and consumption of sick and dead pigs, as well as the disposal of pig carcasses into the environment, have complicated the disease’s dynamics, causing significant losses in provinces such as Cao Bang, Tuyen Quang, Quang Tri, Phu Tho, and Quang Ngai.

However, Ngô Cao Cường asserted that BAF’s farms are under strict protection, with a primary focus on maintaining their pig population. “We will keep our pigs and maintain profitability”, shared Mr. Cường.

Mr. Cường attributed their confidence to BAF’s significant investment in pig farming since 2021, after the initial ASF outbreak in 2020. As a result, their farms were built with a strong foundation and sufficiently thick biosecurity corridors. Additionally, they have collaborated with Muyuan Group, one of the world’s leading pig farming companies from China.

“Muyuan has transferred technology to us to optimize ASF detection and handling. Most importantly, they ensure the safety of our protective corridors”, said BAF’s Vice President.

Furthermore, in the event of an outbreak, these technologies enable BAF to detect, trace, and isolate the disease early on, preventing it from affecting the entire farm, unlike smallholder farmers or other businesses.

Hog prices are entering an upward cycle.

According to BAF, in the second quarter, hog supply was limited due to imbalances in the total herd and foot-and-mouth disease. Prices remained above 72,000 VND/kg and reached 76,000 VND/kg in May 2025. However, with the onset of the rainy season (the ASF season), an increase in the supply of hogs sold due to the disease caused prices to drop to 60,000 – 63,000 VND/kg in July, and they are now rebounding to 65,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Cường attributed the recent price dynamics to two main factors. Firstly, demand decreased due to schools being closed for summer vacation. Secondly, short-term supply increased due to disease outbreaks, leading to an increase in the sale of hogs affected by the disease and underweight hogs being sent to market, resulting in lower prices.

However, Mr. Cường predicted that prices would enter an upward cycle as supply becomes increasingly limited. In September, when the supply of hogs sold due to the disease decreases and schools reopen, prices are expected to maintain their upward trend. “If the disease is not eradicated or controlled, hog prices will definitely remain above 70,000 VND/kg this year”, Mr. Cường asserted.

Notably, feed ingredient prices remain low, which Mr. Cường considers an advantage for large-scale farms. BAF is self-sufficient in feed supply, with current production costs at approximately 45,000 VND/kg. With the current hog prices, the company is assured of profitability.

Updating on the third-quarter performance, Mr. Cương shared that revenue in July reached nearly VND 400 billion, almost entirely from livestock farming, and is expected to increase in August. BAF aims to sell 800,000 market hogs this year, with about 330,000 sold in the first two quarters. With the continuous addition of new farms, the subsequent quarters are expected to show an increase in sales volume.

“The remaining (470,000 pigs) will be sold in the third and fourth quarters. In reality, pig sales cannot be calculated monthly. Pigs that grow faster will be sold in the previous month, otherwise, they will have to be sold later.”

BAF’s Business Performance

Regarding the high-tech layered farm project in Tay Ninh, Mr. Cường shared that the project has received investment approval from the Tay Ninh Provincial People’s Committee on June 29. The complex includes four projects, two of which are pig farms, expected to contribute VND 10-12 trillion in revenue per year upon completion.

The project is currently awaiting approval from the Prime Minister, and BAF plans to commence construction in the first or second quarter of 2026, with the first building expected to be operational in early 2027.
