On the afternoon of May 13, in Thiet Ong commune (Ba Thuoc district), Thanh Hoa Staboo Joint Stock Company coordinated with the Ba Thuoc People’s Committee to organize a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Thanh Hoa Staboo OSB bamboo board factory, with a total investment of nearly VND 3,200 billion.

The project of the Thanh Hoa Staboo OSB bamboo board factory has a scale of more than 26ha, with a designed capacity of 225,000 cubic meters of products per year, consuming about 1,000 tons of bamboo raw materials per day.

This is the largest capacity and scale project in the world in the field of bamboo board production, using modern equipment and leading technology from Europe. The factory is expected to mark a turning point for the provincial forestry industry and the development of a green, sustainable mountain economy in Thanh Hoa.

To ensure a long-term supply of raw materials for production, the factory’s raw material area has been planned with a total area of 200,000 hectares, spanning the provinces of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Hoa Binh, and Son La. It is expected that the factory will officially go into operation from May 2026.

According to the investor, the factory, once completed, will create regular jobs for about 100 local workers and thousands of indirect jobs in the supply chain of raw materials, transportation, and auxiliary services. At the same time, the factory will also contribute to promoting the local economy, contributing to the state budget, and improving the income and living standards of people in bamboo-growing areas.

Provincial Leaders and Investors Perform the Groundbreaking Ceremony

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Le Duc Giang, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, emphasized that Thanh Hoa is currently the locality with the largest bamboo plantation area in the country, with more than 78,000 hectares and a reserve of about 1.6 million tons of raw materials. However, the province currently has only 59 bamboo processing facilities, most of which are small-scale and technologically backward, mainly consuming raw materials in their raw form, with low added value.

The provincial leader also requested that the departments, branches, local authorities, and people in the project area continue to accompany and support the investor in removing difficulties and obstacles in the implementation process. At the same time, he also required Thanh Hoa Staboo Joint Stock Company and contractors to concentrate their maximum financial, human, and equipment resources… to construct according to the progress, ensuring quality, labor safety, and environmental sanitation.

Putting the bamboo board factory into operation is not just a matter of investment and production but also a significant step in Thanh Hoa’s bamboo industry development strategy. With green and environmentally friendly products that can be exported to many international markets, the project is expected to contribute to promoting the image of Thanh Hoa bamboo globally.

Bamboo exploitation is the main source of income for ethnic minorities in many mountainous districts of Thanh Hoa

Thanh Hoa has long been considered the “capital” of bamboo in Vietnam. The intensive cultivation area is concentrated in seven mountainous districts: Quan Hoa, Lang Chanh, Ngoc Lac, Quan Son, Thuong Xuan, Ba Thuoc, and Cam Thuy. This is a unique advantage for the province in forest economy development and poverty eradication.

However, due to limitations in processing technology and a lack of linkage in production, bamboo products have mainly been sold in raw form for a long time. As a result, the economic value derived has not matched the potential.

To overcome this bottleneck, in recent years, Thanh Hoa province has promoted investment attraction for large-scale processing factories, forming a closed value chain from forest cultivation, purchasing, processing to product consumption. The Thanh Hoa OSB Staboo Factory project is a testament to this orientation.

With the companionship of the authorities, businesses, and people, it is expected that the factory will become the most modern bamboo processing center in Vietnam, opening up a sustainable future for the bamboo industry in Thanh Hoa, in particular, and the Vietnamese forestry industry, in general.
