According to data from the reputable automotive website Cho Tot Xe, Vietnam’s automotive market is undergoing notable shifts. The increased demand for transportation has directly impacted both the car and motorcycle segments, reflecting clear shifts in consumer behavior and a temporary imbalance between supply and demand.

Vehicles such as the Toyota Innova, Toyota Vios, and Toyota Camry remain the most sought-after, attributed to their strong resale value, durability, and reasonable maintenance costs—key considerations for used car buyers.

Search trends indicate a preference for sedans, urban vehicles, and versatile pickup trucks. However, the market is experiencing a supply-demand mismatch, with only 7%-11% of sale listings aligning with consumer search queries. Exceptions include models like the Ford Ranger (17%), Mitsubishi Xpander (16%), and Ford Everest (18%), which have higher correspondence rates.

The supply shortage is mainly concentrated on popular models such as the Camry, Civic, and Innova,” remarked Mr. Nguyen Nam, owner of an automobile garage in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City. “These vehicles have high liquidity and retain their value well, prompting owners to hold onto them rather than sell.

Meanwhile, the motorcycle market in April remained stable compared to the previous month. Widely-used models such as the Honda Wave, Air Blade, SH, Exciter, and Future continue their dominance due to their durability, reliability, and strong resale value.

However, the supply of motorcycles falls significantly short of the demand in the automotive segment. Listing rates for motorcycles range from just 4%-10% of search queries, with slightly higher rates for the Honda Vario (10%) and Honda SH (9%). Nonetheless, these rates fail to meet market demand.

This disparity is largely due to Vietnamese users’ tendency to hold onto their vehicles, especially those that are durable and require minimal repairs. Consequently, the used motorcycle market exhibits high stability but suffers from supply shortages, particularly for favored models.
