A new leak on the South Korean social media platform, Naver, has revealed intriguing details about the highly anticipated iPhone 17 Air, which is expected to offer a “light as air” experience. According to the source, this is a prototype that has completed production testing, disclosing crucial specifications such as weight, thickness, and battery capacity.

Specifically, the iPhone 17 Air will boast an impressive thickness of just 5.5mm, a figure previously mentioned by renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. However, the talking point is the device’s battery capacity, which stands at only 2800mAh, matching the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro released almost five years ago. With this capacity, internal tests by Apple indicate that only about 60-70% of users can expect to get through a full day of usage, a significant drop from the 80-90% standard the company is known for.

In comparison, the current iPhone 16 has a battery capacity of 3561mAh, while the iPhone 16 Plus boasts 4674mAh, meaning the new Air model will offer 20% less battery capacity than a standard iPhone and a significant 40% less than its similarly-sized counterpart.

However, Apple is rumored to be implementing AI-powered battery optimization features in iOS 19 to compensate for this shortfall. Additionally, there is speculation that Apple may utilize high-density batteries, maintaining the same physical size while boosting actual efficiency by 15-20%. If this comes to fruition, the device’s battery life could rival that of the standard models.

The standout feature, however, is its weight. Weighing approximately 145 grams, the iPhone 17 Air will be as light as the iPhone SE 2 (148g) and iPhone 13 mini (141g) but with a significantly larger 6.6-inch display, a remarkable achievement in design.

In summary, the iPhone 17 Air is poised to be Apple’s supermodel smartphone, delivering an incredibly lightweight experience true to its “Air” moniker. The trade-off for this sleek design is a compromise on battery life, which remains a critical aspect for today’s mobile users.
