Currently, AirAsia operates 346 weekly flights on 17 routes from hubs such as Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Phnom Penh, and Siem Reap, connecting to major Vietnamese cities, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Cam Ranh, and Phu Quoc.
The leadership of Capital A recognizes Vietnam’s potential to become a regional logistics hub, presenting opportunities for collaboration not only in aviation but also in e-commerce, logistics, and advanced payment technology solutions.
In response, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the group consider increasing flights between the two countries to facilitate business connections and tourism development. The government leader also expressed his welcome regarding the collaboration to enhance the capacity of Vietravel Airlines and other airlines.
Regarding the potential partner, Vietravel Airlines was established with an initial charter capital of VND 700 billion, approved by the Government in April 2020. The airline operated its first commercial flight in early 2021 and has since been approved to increase its capital to VND 1,300 billion.
At present, Vietravel Airlines operates domestic routes connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with Da Nang, Quy Nhon, Nha Trang, and Phu Quoc, along with two international routes from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok. However, the airline owns only one narrow-body aircraft on a dry lease.
A significant turning point came at the end of 2024 when T&T Group announced that two member companies and the BVIM fund became strategic shareholders of Vietravel Airlines. Just three months later, Mr. Do Vinh Quang, the second son of Mr. Do Quang Hien, founder of T&T Group, was elected to the Board of Directors for the 2025-2030 term and took on the role of Chairman of the airline.
The new Board also includes Mr. Do Quang Vinh, the eldest son of “Bầu Hiển,” who is currently Vice Chairman of SHB.
With T&T Group taking control, they aim to transform Vietravel Airlines into an aviation ecosystem following a conglomerate model and expanding into air cargo transportation. According to Mr. Do Quang Hien, the group’s ambitions extend beyond transportation to include aviation services, ground handling, and aviation technical and industrial services.
