According to the Permanent Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue of Ha Tinh province, prolonged heavy rains over two days, May 24 and 25, 2025, caused 2,250 hectares of unharvested spring rice to be flooded, more than 2,000 tons of harvested rice to be wet, and 397 hectares of various flowers and crops to be submerged.

Especially, the situation in some districts such as Cam Xuyen, Thach Ha, Ky Anh, and Ha Tinh city was recorded to be severe.

Many people in Ha Tinh are still submerged in water, trying to save unharvested rice fields.

The Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee immediately issued an urgent dispatch signed by Standing Deputy Secretary Tran The Dung, requesting levels, sectors, and localities to synchronously implement measures to cope with and overcome the consequences of floods and storms, ensuring the safety of people’s lives and property.

Cam Xuyen district suffered the most serious damage. According to the district’s People’s Committee rapid report, prolonged heavy rains from the evening of May 24 to the early morning of May 25 caused widespread flooding, damaging more than 690 hectares of rice, most of which were ready for harvest. Nearly 1,900 tons of rice were soaked or washed away in communes such as Cam My, Cam Quan, Cam Thach, Cam Ha, and Cam Due…

In addition, the heavy rains caused flooding and damage to 175 hectares of vegetable crops and upland crops and washed away 250 peach trees in Cam Thinh commune. In terms of livestock farming, the district lost nearly 12,000 cattle and poultry.

The flood also affected other properties of the people, such as 11 tons of water-damaged fertilizer, 110 meters of collapsed walls, and many motorbikes, machinery, and electronic equipment were submerged and damaged.

Given this situation, the People’s Committee of Cam Xuyen district issued a dispatch directing the communes and towns to promptly implement recovery measures, guide people to harvest rice in time, and organize drying to minimize damage.

On the afternoon of May 25, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee of Ha Tinh, Nguyen Duy Lam, inspected the situation in Cam Xuyen district. He visited and encouraged the people of My Phu village (Cam My commune), which was severely affected by the flash flood on the night of May 24. He also inspected the scenes of severe damage in Cam Thach commune.

The Secretary assessed that this rainfall was an unusual weather phenomenon rarely seen in May, which caused significant damage to production and people’s lives. Immediately upon receiving the information, the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee directed the entire political system to respond, especially in vulnerable areas, low-lying areas, and areas prone to landslides.

Mr. Nguyen Duy Lam requested Cam Xuyen district to urgently compile statistics on the area of harvested but flooded rice and proactively contact rice mill owners to support the people. At the same time, the communes must expedite the harvest of the remaining areas as soon as the water recedes to minimize losses.

Facing the possibility of continuing complex weather, the Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee requested sectors and localities to continue inspecting and reviewing areas prone to landslides, low-lying areas, and dike and reservoir systems, especially downgraded or under-construction projects. Repairs of items must be completed before the rainy season.

The Ha Tinh Hydro-Meteorological Station is assigned to closely monitor weather developments and continuously update forecasts to serve the direction of natural disaster prevention and control. Local media agencies are also requested to strengthen communication so that people can proactively respond to abnormal situations caused by floods and storms.

In addition to agricultural and infrastructure solutions, Secretary of the Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee, Nguyen Duy Lam, also asked Cam Xuyen district to direct the District Health Center to deploy disinfection measures in residential areas after floods to prevent the risk of disease outbreaks. This is an important part of post-disaster recovery, ensuring community health.
