The Standing Committee of the Da Nang People’s Council has requested the city’s People’s Committee to urgently coordinate and engage with the Quang Nam People’s Committee to inspect the operations of licensed sand mines in the province. They have also proposed a plan to increase the extraction capacity of these mines to stabilize the construction sand market in the region. This proposal comes amidst a backdrop of dwindling construction sand supplies in Da Nang since the beginning of 2025, resulting in soaring prices and complex market dynamics.

Sand collection yards emerge in Hoa Minh ward, Lien Chieu district, Da Nang city
This situation directly impacts the progress of key construction projects and poses challenges for investors, project management units, and contractors alike. According to the Da Nang People’s Council, without a timely and comprehensive solution, there is a high risk of failing to disburse public investment capital, which would negatively affect the growth rate of the industry and construction sector and the city’s goal of achieving over 10% economic growth in 2025.
Based on reports from the Urban Affairs Committee, the Da Nang People’s Council has urged the city’s People’s Committee to direct relevant departments to promptly review and comprehensively assess the supply of construction materials, especially sand, and to formulate long-term plans to ensure a stable supply.
This document has also been sent to the City Party Committee, the City Council’s committees, and the delegation of City Council members for their attention, supervision, and support in implementing solutions in the coming time.
In May, construction sand prices in Da Nang surged from around VND 300,000/m3 to VND 700,000, doubling in just one month and nearly tripling compared to the beginning of the year.
The main reason for this shortage is attributed to the interruption of supply from Quang Nam. Sand mines in Quang Nam have either halted operations or reduced their output, leading to a scarcity of construction sand in the market.
