“The Kaluga region has a significant amount of arable land that has laid fallow for years and remained untapped. Over the years, TH’s project has gradually put this unused land to efficient use. The local people will also have jobs on these very lands, which used to be abandoned,” said Efremov Alexander Viktorovich, Minister of Agriculture of the Kaluga region, at the inauguration of the TH Milk Factory in Kaluga, Russia.

TH’s project, with its modern dairy farms, high-tech fields, and world-class factories, has brought positive impacts to agriculture in Kaluga, especially infusing new life into dairy processing. It contributes to addressing the shortage of dairy processing capacity in the region. Since the project’s implementation, TH has invested hundreds of millions of USD in modern agricultural machinery to reclaim and revive tens of thousands of hectares of fallow agricultural land in Moscow and Kaluga regions. Now, the long-fallow agricultural lands in many parts of Russia (where TH’s project is located) have become fertile fields, creating over 500 jobs for Russian workers. In addition, the project has become a meaningful symbol of “people’s diplomacy” between the two countries.

Fertile land with untapped potential

The Russian Federation, with its vast market of 145 million people and ever-increasing dairy consumption (reaching its highest level in 28 years in 2024, about 250kg/person/year), is a potential yet challenging destination for international agricultural investors.

In the Kaluga region, considered the “stronghold” of dairy production in the Russian Federation, a paradox exists: While there is no shortage of production, local processing capacity has not kept pace, affecting the province’s dairy industry development potential. Despite being one of the leading regions in Russia in terms of commercial dairy growth and milk yield productivity (reaching a record of 10,050 kg/cow/year in 2024, equivalent to about 27.5 liters/cow/day) with a self-sufficient milk capacity of 162%, Kaluga still faces a lack of local processing infrastructure.

The presence of the TH Milk Factory provides a solution to a long-standing issue in Kaluga.

TH’s founder, Thai Huong, once shared that TH came to Russia out of a natural sense of morality and gratitude for the help received during the fierce war years. Investing in Russia is also the company’s way of expressing its appreciation and fostering the friendship between the two countries. Additionally, TH saw a “golden opportunity” in Russia’s then-strong and transparent agricultural incentives. As a result, TH’s high-tech, closed-loop agricultural model has contributed a comprehensive, efficient, and sustainable development blueprint for Russia’s dairy industry.

TH’s approach to making “the land blossom, with strengthened friendship”

With its experience as one of Vietnam’s leading dairy companies, TH brought to Russia the lessons and successes of its closed-loop, high-tech agricultural production chain, “from pasture to table.” Dairy farming and processing in Kaluga have since operated efficiently, optimizing costs and product quality.

Firstly, TH focused on land reclamation and development of feed resources for dairy cows. TH invested hundreds of millions of USD in modern machinery to reclaim tens of thousands of hectares of long-fallow agricultural land in Moscow and Kaluga, transforming them into fertile fields for growing dairy cow feed such as corn, sorghum, and grass. This initiative contributed to reviving unused agricultural land and creating jobs for local workers.

The once-fallow fields in the Kaluga and Moscow regions are now thriving again, thanks to the dedication, knowledge, and determination of TH’s team.

In terms of livestock selection, TH raises a purebred Holstein Friesian high-yielding dairy herd imported from the USA. Thanks to selective breeding, advanced technology, and scientific farming practices, TH’s cows in Russia achieve an average yield of 40-41 liters/cow/day, among the highest in Russia. The milk quality is also “top-notch,” with high protein and fat content.

The barns are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, utilizing an advanced herd management system (Afifarm from Israel), professional veterinary care, and automated milking processes, ensuring the highest quality of raw milk.

TH’s modern dairy factory in Kaluga, inaugurated on May 11, 2025, with cutting-edge technologies, is a crucial link in the closed-loop production chain. The factory produces a diverse range of high-quality TH true MILK products, from traditional Russian dairy items such as fresh pasteurized and sterilized milk, Smetana, Yogurt, Kefir, Ryazhenka, butter, cheese, and cream to non-traditional products that address the health concerns of the modern era, such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. These products also cater to local tastes while incorporating TH’s unique innovations.

With a designed capacity of 1,000 tons of milk per day, the factory effectively addresses Kaluga’s shortage of local processing capacity, as the region is the “dairy powerhouse” of the Russian Federation.

“TH’s project in Russia also sets a new trend in Vietnam-international investment cooperation. The land will blossom, and friendship will be strengthened. The farmers and citizens of Vietnam and Russia will become friends on these fertile fields, and they will be happy and prosperous forever,” said Hero of Labor, Thai Huong – Founder and Chairman of TH’s Strategic Board.
