**Electricity Supply and Production in Vietnam: June 2025 Update**

Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) has announced that it ensured a safe and continuous power supply in May and the first five months of 2025, supporting socio-economic development and meeting the people’s daily needs.

The total electricity production and import of the system in May 2025 reached 28.6 billion kWh, with the highest daily output reaching 1.041 billion kWh and a peak capacity of 49,759 MW. Cumulative system output in the first five months of 2025 reached 127.6 billion kWh; of which, hydropower accounted for 20.1%, coal-fired power for 56.8%, gas turbines for 6.8%, and renewable energy for 14.3% (including 11.77 billion kWh of solar power and 5.85 billion kWh of wind power). Imported electricity accounted for 1.8%…

Estimated electricity transmission in May 2025 reached 22.9 billion kWh, and the cumulative transmission in the first five months of 2025 is estimated at 101.73 billion kWh.

Regarding investment in key power projects in 2025, EVN reported that the construction progress of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant expansion project met and exceeded the plan, closely following the milestones to ensure the generation of the first unit in August 2025 as directed by the Prime Minister.

For the Tri An Hydropower Plant expansion project, the approval of the contractor selection results for the main construction package (XL04-TAMR) aims to start construction on the occasion of the 80th National Day anniversary on September 2, 2025.

For the Bac Ai Pumped-Storage Hydropower Project, a capital mobilization plan is being developed for submission to the EVN Board of Members for approval and subsequent submission to the Ministry of Finance for approval…

In the first five months of 2025, EVN and its units started construction on 47 grid projects and completed 118 grid projects from 110 to 500kV (1 500kV project, 6 220kV projects, and 111 110kV projects). For the project to supply electricity from the national grid to Con Dao district, contractors are focusing on implementing multiple packages simultaneously, and in May 2025, construction progress was accelerated…

Accelerating the construction of the project to supply electricity from the national grid to Con Dao district.

Regarding the power supply situation in June 2025, EVN stated that this is the peak summer month in the North, with very high power demand. The maximum capacity of the Northern Power System is expected to reach 27,580 MW.

Following the direction of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, EVN has requested its units and Northern Power Companies to be ready with solutions to ensure power supply. EVN will also coordinate closely with the National Load Dispatch Center and the Power Market (NLDC) to increase hydropower exploitation to ensure optimal operation of various power sources.

EVN requested the Northern Power Corporation to actively coordinate with NLDC to implement the shift of generation sources for small hydropower plants in the North if necessary during June 2025 to ensure increased available capacity during peak hours in the Northern Power System.

At the same time, the Power Generation Corporations and power generation units were also requested to ensure sufficient fuel for power generation according to the system’s needs, enhance inspection and supervision of power plants, especially coal-fired power plants in the North, to ensure availability and reliability of the units, and absolutely prevent accidents during the dry season peak months.

The National Power Transmission Corporation was tasked with ensuring the highest availability of transmission lines and equipment, continuing to review and effectively implementing solutions to minimize transmission grid accidents, especially during the dry season of 2025.

Striving to synchronize the first unit of Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant before September 2, 2025.

Regarding power source investment, EVN will ensure the progress of key projects. Specifically, for the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant expansion project, complete the dismantling of the dam fence and the construction of the third water intake phase before June 15, 2025. Strive to synchronize the first unit of Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant before September 2, 2025, as directed by the Prime Minister. Sign the loan agreement and start the Tri An Hydropower Plant expansion project in June 2025. Organize the implementation of the Bac Ai Pumped-Storage Hydropower Project according to the plan and signed contracts. Complete the feasibility study report (FS) and submit it to the competent authority for appraisal as a basis for approving the investment project of Quang Trach II Thermal Power Plant.

Regarding grid construction investment, focus on directing and urging the preparation of investment and construction progress of key grid projects. Especially for the 500kV Lao Cai – Vinh Yen project, complete the tower erection in July 2025. For the project to supply electricity from the national grid to Con Dao district, continue to urge the acceleration of construction progress of all packages and implement the laying of submarine cables for the first phase from June 9, 2025, to July 8, 2025.

To ensure electricity for socio-economic development and people’s lives in all situations, and to reduce difficulties in operating the power system during the dry season and prolonged hot weather, it is essential to minimize the risk of power accidents due to high electricity demand, especially in the North. EVN looks forward to the continued support and positive coordination of the people and electricity customers by practicing energy-saving measures, especially during peak hours from 1 pm to 3 pm and from 9 pm to 11 pm.

Particularly, it is recommended to use air conditioners rationally, turning them on only when necessary, and setting the temperature at 27°C or higher. Additionally, avoid using multiple high-power appliances simultaneously during peak hours. Practicing energy conservation not only reduces the risk of power accidents but also helps minimize the impact on electricity bills.
