Today (June 6th), three automotive brands, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, and BMW, simultaneously announced the launch of their new models in Vietnam, creating a buzz in the local automotive industry.

Mitsubishi DST Concept:

Among these launches, the Mitsubishi DST Concept, though not yet a commercial vehicle on the market, has garnered the most attention. This prototype has been dubbed the future “Xforce with seven seats.” The DST Concept showcases a design that closely resembles the Xforce, featuring LED headlights, distinctive “hammer-like” LED taillights, and a 3D grille adhering to Mitsubishi’s latest “Dynamic Shield” design language. Its robust appearance is further enhanced by flared wheel arches and large alloy wheels.

The interior of the DST Concept SUV is a futuristic showcase, featuring a large dual-screen setup, a sleek two-spoke steering wheel, an electronic gear selector, and a minimalist button layout. While the vehicle’s chassis and powertrain details are yet to be disclosed, Mitsubishi has revealed that the SUV will offer five driving modes, including a unique “Tarmac” mode for improved performance on paved roads, in addition to Normal, Mud, Wet, and Gravel modes.

Isuzu mu-X:

The unveiling of the 2025 Isuzu mu-X took place at the Vietnam Cultural and Tourism Village. This updated model features a bolder and more modern design, with a distinct grille and redesigned front and rear ends. The headlights are more defined and incorporate LED technology, while the taillights stretch across the width of the vehicle. Notably, the mu-X on display at the emissions testing center featured wheel options ranging from 18 to 20 inches, similar to those found on the Ford Everest.

In terms of features, the mu-X is expected to offer a 7-inch screen behind the steering wheel, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and USB-C charging ports, based on the specifications of the Thai market model. The higher-end variant is likely to include dual-zone automatic climate control and electronic parking brakes.

However, one potential point of contention with the new mu-X is its engine. According to dealership sources, the vehicle may continue to use the 1.9L engine instead of the 2.2L engine showcased at the 2025 Bangkok Auto Show. This engine offers lower power output compared to its competitors, the Everest, Fortuner, and Pajero Sport.

BMW X3:

In Ho Chi Minh City, Thaco Auto unveiled the latest generation of the BMW X3. Built on BMW’s CLAR II platform, the new X3 boasts larger dimensions with a length of 4,755 mm, a width of 1,920 mm, a height of 1,660 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,865 mm. The exterior has been completely redesigned, featuring new headlights, bumpers, windows, and alloy wheels. The iconic kidney grille is now larger and more angular, emphasizing the vehicle’s sporty character.

The interior of the X3 is expected to follow the design cues of the recently launched 3 Series, featuring a two-spoke steering wheel and a seamless dual-screen setup that may incorporate the new OS9 operating system and ConnectedDrive services. The center console and gearshift area are likely to mirror the design of the current 3 Series as well.

In terms of powertrain, the X3 is likely to receive updates. The xDrive20 standard model is expected to be equipped with a 2.0L I4 turbocharged engine with mild hybrid technology (MHEV), boosting its output to 190 horsepower. The xDrive30 variant is rumored to offer even more power, possibly matching the 255 horsepower of its European counterpart.

BMW 5 Series:

Alongside the X3, BMW Vietnam also introduced the all-new 5 Series, marking the eighth generation of this iconic model globally. The 2025 5 Series has undergone a significant transformation, built on the CLAR II platform, with an increased length of 5,060 mm and a wheelbase extended by 20 mm. The design language is more athletic and expressive, featuring bold lines, angular elements, and daring creases.

The front grille is larger, and the LED headlights are now separated from the grille, giving the vehicle a more assertive appearance. The taillights are thinner and more streamlined, and the chrome accents have been replaced with black trim for a more subtle look. The interior of the 5 Series continues the theme of sporty elegance, with a sleek dashboard design and modern amenities.

Under the hood, the 5 Series continues to offer a diverse range of engine options. In the US market, the base 520i is powered by a 2.0L engine producing 188 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque. The European version of the 520i features a mild hybrid system, generating 205 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque. The 530i, with its 2.0L mild hybrid engine, delivers an impressive 255 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. The 520i and 530i are likely to be the variants available in the Vietnamese market.

Additionally, alongside the traditional gasoline-powered models, the 5 Series is expected to introduce an all-electric variant, the i5, joining the previously launched i4 and i7. The i5 is anticipated to feature an electric motor producing 335 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque, offering a sustainable and powerful driving experience.
