Retail sales and consumer service revenue in May 2025 reached an estimated 574.9 trillion VND at current prices, up 0.4% from the previous month and up 10.2% from the previous year. Notably, revenue from food and foodstuffs increased by 11.3% year-on-year, while cultural and educational items rose by 7.9%. Home appliances and equipment saw a 7.5% increase, followed by a 3.7% rise in clothing sales. The hospitality and catering services witnessed a significant surge of 19.1%, and travel services soared by 35.0% as many localities actively implemented tourism stimulus programs.

Cumulative retail sales and consumer service revenue for the first five months of 2025 stood at an estimated 2,851.4 trillion VND at current prices, marking a 9.7% increase compared to the same period last year (an 8.8% increase in 2024). Excluding price factors, the growth rate was 7.4% (5.4% in 2024).

Retail sales in the first five months of 2025 were estimated at 2,182.3 trillion VND, accounting for 76.5% of the total and representing an 8.2% increase year-on-year. Cultural and educational items led the growth with an 11.1% increase, followed by food and foodstuffs (9.8%), clothing (6.3%), and home appliances and equipment (5.8%). Some localities with notable year-on-year increases in retail sales during this period include Ho Chi Minh City (8.6%), Hai Phong (8.4%), Can Tho (7.7%), Hanoi (7.5%), and Da Nang (7.4%).

Hospitality and catering services revenue for the first five months reached an estimated 340.3 trillion VND, accounting for 11.9% of the total and reflecting a 15.2% increase compared to the same period last year. Ho Chi Minh City led the growth with an 18.3% increase, followed by Da Nang (18.0%), Quang Ninh (16.8%), Hai Phong (14.0%), Hanoi (12.8%), and Can Tho (9.4%).

Travel service revenue for the first five months was estimated at 38.4 trillion VND, contributing 1.4% to the total and increasing by 24.7% year-on-year. Ho Chi Minh City (30.4%), Dong Nai (29.1%), Lao Cai (24.4%), Hanoi (22.0%), and Da Nang (19.9%) were among the localities with significant year-on-year increases in travel service revenue.

Other service revenue for the first five months was estimated at 290.4 trillion VND, making up 10.2% of the total and increasing by 12.9% compared to the previous year. Can Tho (17.6%), Ho Chi Minh City (15.1%), Ha Tinh (13.3%), Khanh Hoa (12.1%), Tay Ninh (10.7%), Hanoi (9.2%), and Hai Phong (7.0%) were among the localities with notable year-on-year increases in other service revenue.
