The Member Council of the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) has approved the investment plan for the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh Expressway expansion project.

The expansion of the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh section of the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway aims to complete the expressway according to the approved planning scheme.

The project also addresses the growing transport demands, reducing travel time and transportation costs, and facilitating connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and the Long Thanh International Airport.

With a total investment of over VND 16,000 billion and a length of nearly 22 km, the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh Expressway expansion project is a significant undertaking. The starting point is at the Vanh Dai 2 intersection in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City, and the endpoint is at the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway intersection in Long Thanh District, Dong Nai Province.

In terms of routing, the project’s center line will largely follow the existing route, expanding to both sides. However, the section passing through the Long Thanh Bridge will be expanded to the right of the current route.

Regarding the project’s scale, the section from Vanh Dai 2 to Vanh Dai 3 intersections, spanning almost 5 km, will be expanded from 4 to 8 lanes.

The section from the Vanh Dai 3 intersection to the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway intersection (excluding the Long Thanh Bridge section) will be approximately 17 km long and will be expanded from 4 to 10 lanes.

Specifically, for the Long Thanh Bridge, a new bridge unit with a complete scale of 5 lanes will be constructed to the right of the existing bridge.

The project is scheduled for completion between 2025 and 2027, with efforts to substantially finish it by 2026.
