To facilitate smooth connections, the airlines have introduced an Inter-Airline Through Check-in service, allowing passengers to obtain boarding passes for up to three consecutive flights at their initial departure point. Additionally, members of both airlines’ loyalty programs will enjoy exclusive benefits such as priority check-in counters, increased baggage allowances, and preferred boarding.

“This joint venture signifies a new chapter in the cooperative relationship between our airlines, reflecting our shared commitment to delivering superior value and convenient connections for passengers traveling between China and Vietnam,” said Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung, Head of Planning and Development at Vietnam Airlines.

Mr. Zhang Dongsheng, Deputy General Manager of the Commercial Leading Committee of China Southern Airlines, stated, “In recent years, China Southern Airlines has been actively expanding our aviation market in countries along the Belt and Road Initiative through international bilateral cooperation, building a global network of partners. Our joint venture with Vietnam Airlines is a significant step in our internationalization strategy. We will link the Greater Bay Region with Vietnam’s ‘Two Corridors, One Belt’ initiative, fostering regional economic, trade, and cultural exchanges by establishing an air bridge between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Region and Vietnam.”

China Southern Airlines has long been a crucial strategic partner for Vietnam Airlines in the Chinese market. Since 2010, the airlines have engaged in codeshare cooperation on routes between Vietnam and China. In 2022, they formally signed a Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement to expand their collaboration in various fields, including commerce, services, and technology. Both parties committed to prioritizing each other’s services at co-operated airports and coordinating the development of their respective hub airports to enhance operational efficiency and expand the network between Vietnam and China.

China Southern Airlines is developing two comprehensive international air hubs in Guangzhou and Beijing, with Guangzhou serving as the primary gateway from mainland China to Southeast Asia, catering to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Region and the Belt and Road Initiative. The airline currently operates direct flights from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Changsha, Wuhan, and Shanghai to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Nha Trang, with peak frequencies reaching up to 111 flights per week.
