VinUni Embarks on an Ambitious Journey to Become One of the Top 100 Universities Globally

In a recent development, VinUni has unveiled its accelerated development strategy for Phase 2, with the aspiration to rank among the top 100 universities worldwide. The cornerstone of this strategy is the “VinUni 500” program, which aims to recruit 500 of the world’s brightest academic talents. Moreover, Phase 2 of VinUni has received a substantial investment of 9.3 trillion VND from Vingroup (the conglomerate of billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong) to expand its educational scope and establish a world-class research ecosystem in Vietnam.

According to VinUni, the Phase 2 strategy will focus on two main pillars: developing academic and research infrastructure and elevating the academic staff to international standards. The university aims to foster five strategic research areas: AI and Robotics, Medicine and Health Technology, Smart Cities and Environment, Big Data and High-Performance Computing, and Policy and Sustainable Development.

In terms of infrastructure development, Vingroup has committed an investment of 9.3 trillion VND to VinUni for its new phase. Out of this, 1.5 trillion VND will be allocated for expanding the campus, constructing lecture halls, dormitories, sports facilities, and state-of-the-art laboratories. The university aims to increase its student capacity from 1,500 to 5,000, with nearly 50% being postgraduate students who will form the core of the research ecosystem.

VinUni plans to establish an Industrial Research and Innovation Hub, bringing together R&D experts from the Vingroup ecosystem.

Additionally, VinUni will establish an Industrial Research and Innovation Hub, integrating high-tech labs, university-enterprise collaboration spaces, and a 1,000-seat international conference hall. This hub will regularly host over 600 scientists and become a hotspot for co-innovation. It will bring together R&D experts from the ecosystem’s enterprises, especially VinFast, Vinmec, VinBigData, VinRobotics, and VinMotion, along with VinUni faculty and students to form co-innovation studios, focusing on high-impact applied research, rapid commercialization, and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Alongside this on-site hub, VinUni will collaborate with renowned global universities such as Cornell, Pennsylvania, and Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), as well as reputable Vietnamese universities, to develop interdisciplinary research clusters (RISE research clusters). These collaborations aim to produce high-quality academic publications and address significant national challenges.

VinUni’s Ambitious Recruitment Drive: “VinUni 500”

VinUni confidently approaches its goal with a strategy combining Internal Strength, Collaboration, and External Support.

Regarding academic staff elevation, VinUni launches the “VinUni 500” program to recruit 500 global academic elites, especially Vietnamese scholars working abroad. The recruitment scope includes: 10 international scientific directors, 200 lecturers-researchers with reputable publications, 200 post-doctoral scholars, and 100 affiliated lecturers. Interested candidates can submit their applications through VinUni’s Legacy of Excellence website.

To attract top scholars, VinUni will offer competitive compensation packages on par with leading global universities, including a personal career development fund of up to 150 million VND per year and seed funding of up to 6 billion VND for outstanding scientists.

Beyond enhancing research and teaching quality, the “VinUni 500” program aims to connect the network of Vietnamese scholars with overseas Vietnamese scholars and VinFuture Prize laureates (a gathering of global intellectual elites) to create a powerful synergy for substantial and impactful research collaborations.

Dr. Le Mai Lan, Chairman of VinUni’s Board of Trustees, shared: “VinUni is not just a university, but a vision for nurturing talent for the future. We believe that by attracting talented individuals to build our internal strength, collaborating with domestic and international scholars, and leveraging the support from the business ecosystem, VinUni will positively contribute to the national strategy in this era of the country’s ascent.”

Emerging from the aspiration to establish a world-class university in Vietnam, VinUni has, in just five years, become a symbol of entrepreneurship, speed, quality, and global academic collaboration. In 2024, it became the youngest university to attain the comprehensive QS 5-star rating at the fastest pace globally, steadily cementing its position in the international higher education community.

VinUni aims to rank among the top 100 universities globally in Phase 2.

VinUni is a private, non-profit university founded by Vingroup in 2019 with the mission of nurturing talent for the future and the aspiration to become an excellent university by international standards.

In September 2024, the prestigious QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) ranked VinUni as a 5-star university. This recognition was based on QS’s latest criteria across nine areas: Global Outlook, Transparency and Integrity, Learning Experience, Employment Outcomes, Academic Development, Inclusive Environment, Facilities, Arts and Culture, and Social Responsibility.
