On June 17th, the Hanoi High-Level People’s Court reopened the appeal trial for a case of securities manipulation and fraud that took place at the FLC Group.

The judges shared that the court had received a request from the defendant Trinh Van Quyet to be tried in absentia due to his poor health.

The court also received a report from Detention Camp T16 stating that they were unable to extract the defendant for the trial due to his unstable health condition.

Detention Camp T16 also submitted a document from the 198 Military Hospital, stating that the defendant, Trinh Van Quyet, was experiencing fatigue, shortness of breath, and required continuous medication, including antibiotics and anti-tuberculosis drugs, as well as oxygen therapy. The document further mentioned that the defendant had multiple medical conditions and was at high risk of mortality.

Lawyers of Trinh Van Quyet stated that their client’s absence would not significantly impact the trial and requested the judges to proceed. Another lawyer from the FLC Group’s former chairman’s legal team emphasized the high risk of their client’s demise and urged the court to continue the proceedings.

In addition to Trinh Van Quyet, several other defendants, victims, and lawyers were also absent. After deliberation, the appellate court decided to proceed with the trial.
