Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Quang, Secretary of the Danang City Party Committee, affirmed that in every historical period of the country, the revolutionary press, with its role as a sharp weapon of the Party and the State on the ideological and cultural front and as a forum for the people, has actively and proactively made effective contributions to information and propaganda work on the Party’s guidelines, views, and policies and the State’s laws; reflected the vivid reality of the country and the city in a timely manner; participated in policy consulting and criticism; and made important contributions to the orientation of thought, culture, education, and aesthetics.

Sharing the same sacred and noble mission, the Quang Nam – Danang Press was born very early and has always stood side by side, sharing the same fate, and facing the same hardships as the army and the people on all battlefields. Soon after the Danang Party Committee was established in 1930, revolutionary newspapers were also formed to meet the needs of developing and propagating revolutionary ideology.

The Provisional Tourane City Party Committee attached great importance to the role of the revolutionary press and advocated for the publication of the Factory Whistle newspaper, initiated and directly operated by Secretary of the City Party Committee Ho Si Thieu. Tourane was also one of the main distribution centers for the Plough newspaper – the mouthpiece of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee. These two newspapers, Factory Whistle and Plough, became powerful tools for revolutionary propaganda and for calling upon the people of Danang and Quang Nam to rise up against the French colonialists.

In 1942, the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee published the Flag of Independence newspaper, later renamed the Liberation Flag newspaper. During the two resistance wars, many more newspapers were established to propagate and mobilize the people to support the revolutionary base in the hinterland and the legal revolutionary organizations in the lowland areas, serving the building of a revolutionary base and preparing for the armed struggle to liberate the South. Some notable newspapers from this period include Battle Victory, Determined to Advance, and later, the Liberation newspaper. In 1966, due to the need for more reliable and authoritative information for Danang city, the Quang Da Provincial Party Committee instructed the Liberation newspaper to publish an additional edition, the Liberation Flag newspaper, specifically for distribution in the inner city of Danang.

In February 1976, the merger of the Special Zone of Quang Da and Quang Nam province into Quang Nam – Danang province also led to the merger of the two revolutionary newspapers, Liberation of Quang Da and Liberation of Quang Nam, into one, known as the Quang Nam – Danang newspaper, directly under the Quang Nam – Danang Provincial Party Committee. The journalists, with their strong political will, revolutionary spirit, and belief in the Party’s ideals, proactively immersed themselves in reality to provide timely and vivid reflections of the province’s situation. The quality of the newspaper, in terms of both content and form, improved significantly, making it one of the few local newspapers with a large readership across the country.

In 1997, after the province of Quang Nam – Danang was divided into two centrally-controlled administrative units, the press and journalists in the city continued to make significant transformations to enhance the quality and effectiveness of information and propaganda work, reflecting various aspects of political, economic, and social life. They promoted new elements, models, and good practices and commended good people and good deeds, while also promoting the study and following of President Ho Chi Minh’s thought and moral example… These efforts contributed to social consensus and the building of a civilized, modern, and culturally rich city.

Secretary Nguyen Quang emphasized that the year 2025 marks several important historical milestones for the country, with significant transformations, especially as the entire political system looks towards the centenary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press. Danang city is presented with new and vast opportunities. The merger of Danang city and Quang Nam province is a historical milestone, opening a new phase of breakthrough development, pioneering in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation. We strive to build a new Danang that will become a growth pole of Vietnam, with high competitiveness in the Asia-Pacific region; a center of culture, sports, education, and high-quality healthcare; and an attractive destination for the world. At the same time, we are committed to maintaining national defense, political security, social order, and safety, as well as sovereignty over our borders, seas, and islands.

Mr. Nguyen Quang shared that in his directive at the ceremony commemorating the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Danang Party Committee and the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Danang city, Comrade To Lam, General Secretary of the Party Central Committee, emphasized: “Danang has created the Han River miracle in promoting socio-economic development with the ‘Five Highs’ model, including high knowledge, high culture, high income, high governance, and high quality of life.”

To continue achieving these goals and maintaining the aforementioned miracles, now more than ever, the city needs unity, consensus, and the combined strength of the entire Party, people, and army. In this endeavor, the revolutionary press and the operations of press agencies in the city play an extremely important connecting role.

At the ceremony commemorating the 100th anniversary of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press, Danang city awarded the 2024 City Journalism Awards to 34 works by 80 authors and groups of authors.

On this occasion, the city also presented gifts to veteran journalists who have made significant contributions to the journalism industry.
