On June 20th, the Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee announced that the demolition of the commercial center at 1-3-5 Dinh Tien Hoang Street, also known as the “Shark Mouth” building, commenced on the night of June 19th and is expected to be completed within 20 days.
Prior to the demolition, the Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee conducted a rigorous bidding process and selected a qualified contractor to dismantle the structure. The demolition is being carried out with strict adherence to safety protocols, ensuring the protection of adjacent residences and maintaining environmental hygiene for the Dong Kinh – Nghia Thuc Square area.
On May 25th, the committee erected fencing around the “Shark Mouth” building to facilitate the upcoming demolition work.
The “Shark Mouth” building is set to be demolished within 20 days.
According to the plan approved by the Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee, the renovation of the Dong Kinh – Nghia Thuc Square area will be carried out in two phases.
The first phase will involve five key tasks: the dismantling of the “Shark Mouth” building, the relocation of a transformer station located on the first floor of the building by Hoan Kiem Power Company, the refurbishment of the Hapro building (7-9 Dinh Tien Hoang Street), the improvement of canopies, awnings, and signage of surrounding buildings along Dinh Tien Hoang Street, Cau Go Street, and the beginning of Hang Dao Street, the enhancement of Thuy Ta Restaurant, and the reorganization of traffic on Dinh Tien Hoang Street…
In the second phase, the district will explore options for underground space development in the square. This will include further improvements to the first layer of surrounding buildings and comprehensive upgrades to technical infrastructure, befitting the status of Hoan Kiem Lake as a special national relic.
