On June 29th, the People’s Committee of Binh Phuoc Province, in collaboration with the Vingroup-Techtra joint venture, signed a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) contract for the Component 1 project of the North-South Expressway Western Route, spanning from Gia Nghia in Dak Nong Province to Chon Thanh in Binh Phuoc Province. This public-private partnership (PPP) endeavor is a significant step forward.

The first component of the North-South Expressway Western Route, spanning from Gia Nghia to Chon Thanh, measures approximately 124.13 kilometers in length. Of this, around 23.1 kilometers traverse Dak Nong Province, while the remaining 101.03 kilometers pass through Binh Phuoc Province.

Designed for a speed of 120 km/h, the expressway will feature six lanes with a roadbed width of 32.25 meters, except for a 33-meter width in the section passing through Dong Xoai City. The initial investment phase will involve the construction of four lanes with a roadbed width of 24.75 meters.

With a total investment of approximately VND 19,965 billion, the project will be implemented from 2025, aiming for substantial completion in 2026 and official operation in 2027. The concession period for the project is set at 29 years and 4 months.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Chairman Tran Tue Hien emphasized the significance of the Gia Nghia-Chon Thanh Expressway not only for Binh Phuoc and Dak Nong Provinces but also for the entire Central Highlands and Southeast regions. This route serves as a strategic connector, linking these provinces with Ho Chi Minh City, one of the country’s most dynamic economic hubs.

According to Chairman Hien, “The construction of this expressway will not only expand the development space and create new growth momentum for both regions but also effectively exploit land potential, boost tourism, promote the development of processing industries, mineral exploitation, and other key economic sectors.”
Upon completion, the project is expected to reduce travel time, lower logistics costs, enhance trade connections, and attract investment. It will also contribute to ensuring national defense and security and promoting sustainable regional linkage.
Chairman Hien urged the investor to promptly prepare the design and select reputable and experienced contractors for the project. He also requested the investors of Component 4 and Component 5 projects and the local authorities of the provinces through which the expressway passes to expedite land clearance and site handover processes.
