On February 2, the Investigation Agency of the Xuân Lộc District Police, Đồng Nai Province, issued a statement regarding the receipt of a crime report involving Vinaconex-Trung Chính (the contractor for package 3 of the Phan Thiết-Dầu Giây expressway).

A series of overhead electric poles on the Dầu Giây-Phan Thiết expressway had their covers pried open to steal the wires inside.

According to the report from the Vinaconex-Trung Chính consortium, the lighting system for the construction package has been installed since August 2023. However, during the waiting period for the power grid to connect and energize the system, theft occurred in the sections passing through Xuân Tâm and Xuân Hiệp communes.

Specifically, from August to December 2023, tens of thousands of meters of electrical wires for lighting on the Phan Thiết-Dầu Giây expressway were excavated and stolen, resulting in a total loss of over 3.6 billion VND. The Xuân Lộc District Police are currently investigating the case to clarify the details.

The Phan Thiết-Dầu Giây expressway is 99km long, with the section passing through Đồng Nai Province being 51.5km and officially opened to traffic since the end of April 2023. The opening of the expressway has shortened the distance between Ho Chi Minh City, Đồng Nai, and Bình Thuận.
