On February 1, the appraisal conference of the Dong Nai province’s 2021-2030 urban planning and 2050 vision was held at the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI).

By 2050, Dong Nai will be one of Vietnam’s important growth poles.

The overall goal is for Dong Nai to lead in the development of modern industry and become a hub for science, technology, innovation, and the southern gateway, with Long Thanh International Airport as the nucleus by 2030. By 2050, Dong Nai will be one of Vietnam’s important growth poles.

The average gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth rate for the period 2021-2030 is expected to be around 10% per year. The per capita GRDP is projected to reach approximately USD 14,650 by 2030. The GRDP growth rate for the period 2031-2050 is expected to be 6.5-7%

Development breakthroughs in Dong Nai by 2030 (according to the summary report)

Dong Nai has identified five pillars of development: industry; urban tourism and services; high-efficiency and sustainable agriculture; Long Thanh Airport; and the digital, green, and circular economy. With the development of Long Thanh Airport, Dong Nai has the potential to develop industries along the aviation value chain, especially in the aviation support industry.

The master plan proposes the establishment of five logistics centers, one of which is the northern logistics center of Long Thanh Airport. The province also proposes to develop an innovation center with a scale of about 300 hectares, located north of Long Thanh Airport (Long Thanh district).

To leverage the advantages of Long Thanh International Airport, the plan also proposes the development of commercial and service-related projects. The tourism complex around Long Thanh Airport will become a leading modern and smart destination in Southeast Asia. The plan also aims to focus on key markets such as Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific.

Deputy Minister of MPI Tran Quoc Phuong, Deputy Chairman of the Appraisal Council, said that Dong Nai has many advantages that not all localities possess. The province is the gateway to the Southeast region – the most developed and dynamic economic region of the country, located within the development triangle of Ho Chi Minh City – Binh Duong – Dong Nai.

In addition to the achievements, according to the Deputy Minister of MPI, the province’s socioeconomic development has not made a breakthrough and has not matched its potential and inherent advantages. The economic growth is high but not truly sustainable.

Although investment has been concentrated in technical and social infrastructure, it remains unsynchronized. The transportation infrastructure has not kept up with the development requirements, and there is insufficient financial resources for investment development. The rapid increase in population and immigrant workers in the province has led to difficulties in meeting social welfare needs.

Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong suggested that this plan should identify and address the major challenges and bottlenecks in the province’s socioeconomic development.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Linh, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, said that during the planning process, Dong Nai province has identified new potential areas that need to be awakened and effectively exploited, such as the planning of the Dong Nai River corridor, the planning of the Biên Hòa vicinity, Long Thanh Airport, etc., which are new dynamic areas for breakthrough development in the province.
