The South Hanoi axial road project has a total length of 41.5 km, started in 2008 and is scheduled to be completed in 2014 by Construction Corporation No.5 as the investor and Cienco 5 Real Estate Joint Stock Company as the project enterprise. This is also a part of the “Spiritual Axis” My Dinh (Hanoi) – Ba Sao Town (Kim Bang – Ha Nam) – Bai Dinh (Ninh Binh) with a scale of 91 km.

The starting point of the South axial road intersects with Phuc La – Van Phu road (Kien Hung, Ha Dong), and the endpoint is the junction with National Highway 1A – under the Gie Bridge (Chau Can, Phu Xuyen). The project is divided into two phases with a total investment of over VND 6,000 billion. The investment capital is equivalent to the land use fee of three projects: Thanh Ha urban area A (195.5 ha), Thanh Ha urban area B (193.22 ha), My Hung urban area (182 ha).

Phase 1 of the project is 20 km long (red section), started in 2008 with an investment of over VND 3,700 billion and was opened to traffic at the end of 2018. It is considered the longest connecting road between the inner city and suburbs, running parallel to Tố Hữu, Quang Trung, Ha Dong, and National Highway 6. The blue section is phase 2, undergoing land clearance and construction.

In the 20 km completed section of the South axial road, about half of the road from Ha Dong to Thanh Oai has 4 lanes on each side and a sidewalk system. From Thanh Oai to Phu Xuyen, each side of the road has 3 lanes and no sidewalk.

Also on the phase 1 route, the South axial road will intersect with Ring Road 4 (under construction) at the section passing through My Hung commune (Thanh Oai district).

In phase 2 of the South axial road, the road has a length of 21.6 km and is currently under construction. The photo shows Cienco 5 Bridge.

The roadbed has been filled with sand and the foundation has been rolled.

This section of the South axial road mainly passes through ponds, agricultural land, which is convenient for construction and land clearance.

In phase 2, only the section intersecting with provincial road 428 (about 6 km) is being constructed. After that, from provincial road 428 to the end of Ung Hoa district, the South axial road has not been deployed for construction.

Recently, Hanoi City People’s Committee has agreed to extend the implementation time of the South Hanoi axial road project, aiming to complete by 2025. After completion, this will be an important road that helps reduce the load for National Highway 21, connects with National Highway 1, links with Ring Road 4, Le Trong Tan street, and provides convenient transportation to Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, and southern provinces.
