On February 4th, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited and gave gifts to families in need, workers, laborers, elderly people living alone, and orphaned children with difficult circumstances in Can Tho City, on the eve of the Lunar New Year 2024 – the Year of the Rat.
The Prime Minister and leaders of central agencies presented 200 gifts to families with difficult circumstances, poor households, and families in need. They also distributed 400 gifts to workers and laborers’ families, as well as 50 gifts to elderly and orphaned children without support.
During this visit, the Prime Minister also handed over symbolic funds for the construction of 200 houses for poor households in Can Tho, with a total value of 10 billion VND, in order to replace temporary and dilapidated houses.

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated that despite the country’s difficulties, every year the state allocates significant resources to invest in and support social security, improve the material and spiritual lives of the people.
This Lunar New Year, the whole country is implementing a comprehensive and widespread social security campaign. Party and state leaders have visited all provinces and cities, along with agencies, to send New Year greetings and gifts to households with difficult circumstances, workers, laborers, and those facing challenges, as well as the forces on duty during the Lunar New Year.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the achievements that Can Tho had made in 2023. He expressed his expectation that in 2024, the Party Committee, government, military, and people of Can Tho would continue to uphold revolutionary traditions, overcome difficulties and challenges, and strive to excellently achieve the goals and tasks set by the 13th National Party Congress, contributing to the overall success of the country.
The Prime Minister, Pham Minh Chinh, requested local authorities and agencies to review and fully implement policies and regimes for beneficiaries, particularly in providing gifts to households with difficult circumstances, workers, laborers, those in need, and vulnerable groups. Relevant forces should ensure security, safety, and public order, effectively carry out firefighting and prevention, healthcare activities, and reduce traffic accidents. The Prime Minister also encouraged people to limit the use of alcohol, drink responsibly, and comply with alcohol concentration regulations when participating in traffic.
