Prime Minister: Revitalizing traditional growth drivers and promoting new growth drivers

The Prime Minister has requested the Government to revitalize the old driving forces of investment, exports, and consumption; effectively exploit new growth drivers such as Digital Economy, Green Economy, Circular Economy, and Innovation.

On February 1, at the Government Office, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the Government held its regular meeting for January 2024 to evaluate the economic and social situation in January 2024; the situation of allocation and disbursement of public investment capital; the implementation of 03 National Target Programs.

The Meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Ministers; Ministers, Heads of branches and agencies under the Government; representatives of the leadership of central Party committees, National Assembly, and leaders of some economic groups.

In his opening remarks at the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that the global situation recently and now is peaceful overall, but there are still local wars; overall, it is harmonious, but there are still tensions; overall, it is stable, but there are still conflicts.

In terms of the economy, inflation has cooled down but remains high; monetary policies of countries are still tightening, but they are forecasted to be relaxed in the near future; global trade is still weak; natural disasters, storms, and climate change continue to be complicated.

Domestically, following the recovery and development momentum of 2023, in the past January, many important economic, political, social, and international events took place, such as the extraordinary central and National Assembly meetings.

Among them, the National Assembly considered and approved 02 Laws, 02 Resolutions. The Government, ministries, departments, and localities summarized the work of 2023, set directions and tasks for 2024… The whole country is urgently and actively preparing for the Lunar New Year – Year of the Tiger.

Prime Minister emphasized that after the Government’s meeting with localities, the Government issued Resolution 01 on the implementation of tasks in 2024 with 6 viewpoints, focusing on directing management, 12 groups of tasks, major solutions, and 168 specific tasks with the motto: “Discipline, timely, creative, and sustainable efficiency.”

Under the leadership of the Party, the companion of the National Assembly, the participation of the whole political system, the people, and businesses, the social and economic situation in January continued to achieve positive and remarkable results: stable macroeconomics; controlled inflation; major balances of the economy ensured; the agricultural, industrial, and service sectors all showed positive signals from the beginning of the year; development investment continued to achieve positive results.

The work of national planning, digital transformation continued to be promoted; cultural and social sectors were paid attention to; people’s lives continued to be improved; 3 strategic breakthroughs continued to be promoted; actively preparing for a happy New Year, welcoming the Lunar New Year; stable political and social situation; defense and security were maintained; foreign affairs continued to be promoted.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that on the occasion of the 94th anniversary of the establishment of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 – February 3, 2024), General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has just written an article “Proud and confident under the glorious flag of the Party, determined to build a Vietnam that is increasingly rich, strong, civilized, and heroic.”

The article affirms that under the glorious flag of the Party, “Our country has never had such a chart, potential, position, and international reputation as today.” Thereby, further consolidating national pride, historical traditions, patriotic spirit, and gaining more confidence to move forward; aiming for 2030 when our Party turns 100 years old, our country will be a developing country with modern industry and high average income.

Regarding the tasks of February and the upcoming period, the Prime Minister requested Government members to discuss, evaluate the situation, draw lessons, especially in leadership, administration, and policy responses.

Based on that, they should propose solutions to renew old drivers such as investment, export, and consumption; supplement and efficiently exploit new growth drivers such as digital economy, green economy, circular economy, innovation; create employment and livelihoods for the people; find solutions to overcome production disruptions and participate more deeply in the global supply chain.

Along with that, the Prime Minister requested to promote the development of culture and society; ensure security and defense; strengthen diplomacy; focus on maximizing resources held by corporations and conglomerates. In particular, in the immediate future, organize a happy, healthy, economical, meaningful, and ensuring that everyone has Tet, no one is left behind.
