On the evening of February 2nd (which is the 23rd day of the last lunar month in the Year of the Cat), President Võ Văn Thưởng and his wife attended an art program with the theme “Ho Chi Minh City – Continuing the glorious heroic epic”.
This event is part of the Homeland Spring program 2024 organized by the State Committee for Vietnamese Overseas (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City,
Also attending were the Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyễn Văn Nên; the member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Fatherland Front Đỗ Văn Chiến; Deputy Prime Minister Trần Lưu Quang and 1,800 overseas Vietnamese from all over the world returned to their homeland to celebrate Tet and participate in the Homeland Spring program 2024.
Congratulating the overseas Vietnamese on Tet, President Võ Văn Thưởng expressed that the country has gone through a difficult year with many major, complex, and unpredictable changes. In that context, Vietnam has made efforts to overcome difficulties and achieved important and comprehensive results in all fields. These achievements are the result of the accurate leadership of the Party, the efforts of the entire political system, including the precious and important contributions of the Vietnamese community overseas.
“Many overseas Vietnamese have succeeded and made a name for themselves in many fields, actively contributing to the host country, acting as an important bridge between Vietnam and the world, actively preserving and spreading the cultural values of the nation, building the image of Vietnam abroad, and contributing to enhancing the position and reputation of Vietnam in the international arena,” said President Võ Văn Thưởng.
According to the President, Vietnam is firmly on the path to realizing the aspirations and vision of developing into a prosperous and happy country, becoming a developed country with high income by 2045. To successfully realize this aspiration, it is necessary to further promote the strength of national unity, mobilize and efficiently utilize all resources, and awaken the potential and creativity of the people for the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
Currently, there are nearly 6 million Vietnamese living in 130 countries and territories. Many people have affirmed their own values, become outstanding individuals, have credibility, and have influence in the Vietnamese community overseas, and they are highly regarded by the host countries.
The President affirmed that the Party and the State always sincerely wish for Vietnamese people overseas to fully exploit their potential, strength, creativity, reap many successes, have a stable life, increasingly have legal, economic, and political positions in society. The success of every Vietnamese person overseas brings joy and pride to the Fatherland Vietnam.
“Nowadays, the Vietnamese community has become increasingly diverse with the succession of many generations. I hope that young people will always be attached to the homeland, focus on Vietnam, speak Vietnamese, be proud of their Vietnamese origin and the good traditional values of the nation. I believe that the spirit and values of Vietnam will make your identity richer and more attractive in the multicultural community,” the President conveyed.
And no matter where, under any circumstances, at any age, with any nationality, as a person with Vietnamese blood, as a Vietnamese who loves the country, you can contribute to the Fatherland in your own way. Because the love for the fatherland is a simple, close, natural need, a legitimate and rightful desire,” the President emphasized.
In his speech, the President also informed the overseas Vietnamese that the Vietnamese Party and State are continuing their efforts to improve the legal system, reform administrative procedures, create increasingly favorable conditions for compatriots to visit the country, visit relatives; invest, produce, do business, cooperate in science and technology-education, cultural and artistic activities, participate in policy feedback, share experiences and knowledge, serve as a bridge between Vietnam and the world.
Vietnam hopes to welcome foreign investors, including overseas Vietnamese, on the basis of ensuring fairness and equality for everyone in accessing opportunities, contributing to the country and enjoying the fruits of development.
In the coming time, the President hopes that compatriots will return to their homeland more to witness the changes of the country, the achievements of the renovation process, to join hands in building and defending our beloved Fatherland Vietnam.
“I call on compatriots to unite as one, firmly trust in the goal of the nation’s progress, and work together to build and develop the stature, strength, position, and reputation of the country, for Vietnam to stand shoulder to shoulder with the powers of the five continents,” President Võ Văn Thưởng emphasized.
At the program, President Võ Văn Thưởng beat the drum to open the festival celebrating the Year of the Tiger 2024.
