Contrasting scenes: Supermarket vs. Traditional Market during Tet season

During the days leading up to the 2024 Lunar New Year, the supermarkets in Nghe An province were always bustling and crowded. In contrast, the traditional markets only had a few customers coming to buy goods.


With only a few days left until Tet Nguyen Dan in Giap Thin 2024, everyone is busy shopping for Tet to welcome a new year full of joy and prosperity. As of the afternoon of February 4th (Chap 25th), the weather is getting warmer and no rain, which makes the number of customers at supermarkets in Nghe An crowded.

At GO supermarket (Quang Trung ward, Vinh City, Nghe An province), the customer areas are packed. The most crowded sections are the bakery, fruit, and alcohol sections.

The staff at the supermarket are continuously restocking products to meet the shopping demands of consumers before Tet Nguyen Dan.

The checkout counter at the supermarket is full of customers waiting to pay. Some customers have to wait in line for 30 minutes to complete their payment.

The supermarket staff are working at full capacity.

Only a few customers visit the stalls days before Tet.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam, a vendor at Vinh market, said that after the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of customers coming to the market has gradually decreased. Although Tet Nguyen Dan is only a few days away, the increased number of customers at the market is not significant.

The Tet cake and candy section is also less crowded with customers.
