In December 2023, Range Rover unveiled the first images of its electric vehicle as part of the opening of pre-orders. The automaker expects its first electric vehicle to be “the quietest and most refined Range Rover ever created.”
According to the latest information from the company, over 16,000 pre-orders have been placed for Range Rover’s first electric model. JLR announced a “strong interest” since the opening of pre-orders in December last year.
Based on the existing gasoline-powered model, the electric Range Rover retains its distinctive design and the ability to tackle various terrains.
Range Rover claims that they will ensure that the towing capability, water wading, and off-road technology all “outperform any other luxury electric SUV.” The key elements of Range Rover are still preserved, including the upscale interior, minimalist design, and off-road capability.
This new electric model is described to have performance and off-road capability similar to (or even better than) the V-8-powered Range Rover.
Range Rover has tested the new model with its most rigorous program to date, including severe weather, various driving conditions and terrains, as well as the ability to wade through water up to 850 mm deep.
Additionally, the electric Range Rover promises fast charging capability. The electric vehicle will be produced in Solihull, UK, alongside the Range Rover PHEV (plug-in hybrid) model. Meanwhile, the battery and some components of the vehicle will be assembled at JLR’s new Electric Powertrain Manufacturing plant in Wolverhampton, UK.
