Congress working roadshow to study the supply of goods serving Tet Gia Thi 2024

On the morning of February 6, 2024, a working delegation from the Ministry of Industry and Trade led by Ms. Phan Thi Thang, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, conducted a field trip to study the supply of goods serving Tet Gia Thi 2024 at Co.opmart Ly Thuong Kiet supermarket (District 10) and Ben Thanh market (District 1).

Available goods at good prices

Providing information to the working delegation, representatives of Co.opmart supermarket said that the prices of most goods have been stable up to this point. Supermarkets have made efforts to reduce prices and share the burden with the people in difficult times.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Duc, General Director of Saigon Co.op, said that purchasing power has gradually increased by 15-20% per week during the Tet business season.

From now until the end of February 9, which is the peak shopping period for the people before Tet, Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, Co.op Food… will concentrate their resources and continuously bring Tet goods to the shelves, offering strong promotions for Tet items such as banh chung (square sticky rice cake), banh tet (cylindrical sticky rice cake), pickled onions, and displayed fruits for the traditional Vietnamese New Year tray of five fruits, as well as ancestral altars.

In order to meet the late shopping demand of the public, Saigon Co.op has extended operating hours from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., while also focusing on allocating resources to better serve the needs of the people, especially during peak hours from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, purchasing power at traditional markets has been recorded to increase at a slower pace. Mr. Ngo Van Ha, Head of the Management Board of Ben Thanh Market, said that the number of visitors to the market is high, but the purchasing power is not as high as the previous year. The prices of goods at this market have remained stable, with no abnormal price increases reported.

“The market is open until 9:00 p.m. every day for visitors to explore and shop. In terms of quality control of goods, the market management board focuses on checking the origin and quality of goods, documents, and requires traders to display prices and documents,” said Mr. Ngo Van Ha, Head of the Management Board of Ben Thanh Market.

After the inspection, Ms. Phan Thi Thang highly appreciated the preparation and supply of Tet goods at both supermarkets and traditional markets. This year’s Tet goods are very diverse, with guaranteed quality and a wide range of designs, serving the diverse shopping needs of consumers.

“The goods are readily available and consumers can buy them for immediate use, without having to spend too much effort on processing,” said Ms. Thang.

Ms. Thang commented that this year, consumers are focusing on purchasing essential consumer goods such as pork, eggs, and Tet food. They are also considering when buying shoes and clothes. “We all hope that the people will have a warm Tet holiday, buy quality products, save money, and have affordable prices,” said Ms. Thang.

Opening 24/7 to serve customers

In the afternoon of the same day, Deputy Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Van Dung surveyed the supply of Tet goods at MM Mega Market An Phu (Thu Duc City).

Providing information to Deputy Chairman Dung, representatives of MM Mega Market said that as of February 5 (Lunar December 26), the system’s revenue had increased by 4.6% compared to the same period of Tet 2023. The number of customers increased by 10.7% while the sales volume was lower by 5.5% compared to the same period, indicating that consumers are saving expenses and focusing only on purchasing essential items.

“Following the direction of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, MM Mega Market is organizing 24-hour sales from February 2 to February 8 (Lunar December 23 to December 29) at 4 supermarkets, including MM Mega Market An Phu, MM Mega Market Binh Phu (District 6), MM Mega Market Hiep Phu (District 12), and MM Mega Market Thang Long (Hanoi). The supermarket has also increased staff from the office to all supermarket warehouses to support all stages and create maximum convenience for customers,” said Mr. Dinh Quang Khoi, Marketing Director of MM Mega Market.

Especially, during this period, MM Mega Market has equipped 4 self-payment counters at MM Mega Market An Phu for customers to experience scanning QR codes, printing invoices, and making payments for their orders. “In recent days, there have been about 700-800 customers experiencing the self-payment service every day, double the usual number,” Mr. Khoi said.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, the work of ensuring the supply and demand of goods, and stabilizing the Tet market for the Lunar New Year of Gia Thi 2024 has also been implemented very early. Up to now, according to reports from localities, the situation of goods is abundant and diverse in terms of designs and types, meeting the shopping needs of the people, and prices have not fluctuated abnormally.

In Hanoi, about 40,900 billion VND worth of Tet goods have been prepared, an increase of about 10% compared to Tet 2023. In Ho Chi Minh City, businesses in charge of market stabilization have prepared more than 22,000 billion VND worth of Tet goods, of which more than 8,500 billion VND is for stabilizing the market.
