Dong Nai will be one of Vietnam’s important growth poles

Dong Nai is a gateway province of the Southeast region – the most developed and dynamic economic region of the country. Among them, Dong Nai is one of the three corners of the Ho Chi Minh City – Binh Duong – Dong Nai development triangle; has many traditional craft industry clusters and more than 33 industrial zones established by the Prime Minister that have been put into stable operation.

Recently, the Appraisal Council has conducted appraisal, approved the Dong Nai province planning for the period 2021 – 2030, vision until 2050 with conditions for adjustment, supplementation and completion.

By 2030, Dong Nai will be a dynamic economy, a driving force for growth, and a core development of the key economic region in the South. Dong Nai will take the lead in developing modern industry; it will be a center of science and technology, innovation; it will be a transshipment gateway for the South with Long Thanh International Airport as the core.

A new commercial service urban system along the river will create an ideal and sustainable river environment; Leading vocational education and health centers in the country are effectively deployed, as places to develop high-quality human resources. Waste management, environmental protection is implemented throughout, contributing to ensuring environmental targets; International class tourism and services centers.

Dong Nai province identifies that by 2050 it will be one of Vietnam’s important growth poles, taking the lead in high-value-added industrial development, an international trading hub, tourism and services associated with spiritual culture, and urban areas of international stature with a sustainable and livable smart urban model, where intellectual resources and talents are concentrated, with green economy, circular economy as the focus, and complete the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.

To achieve the above goals, Dong Nai has five pillars of development, including: Developing the Dong Nai industry toward becoming a modern industrial center of the country; Developing urban tourism and services, especially industrial support services; High and sustainable agricultural industry; Building Long Thanh Airport as a center for developing an airport city commensurate with the region; Developing the digital economy, green economy, circular economy, and contributing to the achievement of the Net-Zero target by 2050.

The 6 supporting factors for Dong Nai to develop the above pillars are multi-modal connectivity infrastructure; Diverse and high-quality investment capital sources; High-quality human resources; Digital government, digital economy, and digital society; Coordinated and effective administration and management; Breakthrough institutions and policies.

Objectives for 2024

At the press conference on the socio-economic situation in 2023 and the directions and key tasks in 2024 held by the Provincial People’s Committee of Dong Nai, the province said that in 2023, the province achieved many results in economic and social development.

The Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) reached 246,000 billion VND, an increase of 5.3% compared to 2022. The industrial production index increased by 5.21% compared to 2022. Business activities and services continued to develop. The total retail sales of goods and service turnover increased nearly 12%, and tourism service revenue increased over 40%.

The export turnover of goods reached 21.7 billion USD, a decrease of 11.7%; imports reached 15.7 billion USD, a decrease of 17.1%. The trade surplus on the local area reached about 6 billion USD. The leased industrial parks achieved a rate of over 85.6% of the leased land area. The state budget revenue reached about 58,000 billion VND, achieving 94% of the annual estimate. Foreign direct investment attraction reached over 1.1 billion USD.

The guidance on disbursement of public investment capital has been concentratedly implemented, the province has issued a decision to establish a working group to promote the disbursement of the investment plan for 2023. The total social development investment capital reached over 113,200 billion VND, an increase of 12.2% compared to last year.

In 2024, Dong Nai has set out important economic targets such as the GRDP growth rate from 6.5 – 7% compared to 2023. The per capita GRDP will reach about 148 million VND/person. The export turnover will increase about 8% compared to 2023. The total investment capital for social development is about 124 trillion VND, and the total state budget revenue will exceed 56,100 billion VND.
