Electric car series to be launched in Vietnam after Tet: Many affordable models from China compete with VinFast

Despite ongoing infrastructure limitations in Vietnam, several car manufacturers are still committed to launching electric vehicles this year.

VinFast VF 3

VinFast VF 3 was previously introduced in Vietnam and the US, Canada but only as a concept car. The commercial version of this small electric car is scheduled to be launched in Vietnam later this year.

VF 3 has a mini size, similar to the MiniEV model of Wuling. The length of the car is only 3.19 meters, while the width is 1.679 meters. The car has a SUV-like design but is small and only has 2 doors on each side. The new interior of the car is only revealed in official graphics with a simple design, with only one screen behind the steering wheel.

The motor configuration of the VF 3 is currently unclear. This car is said to have a range of about 210 km after one full charge.

Baojun Yep

TMT Motor will distribute the Baojun Yep model in Vietnam this year.

Baojun Yep is a direct competitor to VinFast VF 3. The car has a length of nearly 3.4 meters, width is nearly 1.69 meters. The small car has a SUV-like design. The interior of the car is more modern than the VF 3 with two large screens. The technology of the car is quite modern with a self-parking system or a 360-degree camera.

The electric motor of Yep has a power of 68 horsepower, combined with a 28.1 kWh battery for a range of about 303 km. If fast charging, the 30-80% charge time is only 35 minutes.

Wuling Bingo EV

Wuling Bingo EV is also scheduled to be launched in the Vietnam market this year by TMT Motor.

Bingo EV is positioned above the MiniEV in the same segment. The size of this electric car can be compared to Kia Morning or Hyundai i10 with a length of nearly 4 meters and a width of over 1.7 meters. The design of the car is round rather than square like its siblings. The highlight comes from the interior with two large 7-inch and 10.25-inch screens. Minimalist cabin design.

The highest configuration of Bingo EV is an electric motor with 54 horsepower, combined with a 31.9 kWh battery for a range of about 333 km.

BYD Atto 3

There is currently information spreading on social media about BYD’s upcoming dealership in Vietnam. The product will include both SUVs and sedans. Currently, BYD Atto 3 is the most anticipated model. This is also the best-selling model of this brand in Thailand.

BYD Atto 3 is in the same segment as VinFast VF 6 with a length of over 4.4 meters and a wheelbase of 2.72 meters. The design of this electric car is not too special from the outside, but the interior has a futuristic style with a tablet-like screen.

The Atto 3 motor is more than 200 horsepower. The car battery allows for about 480 km of driving after one full charge.

The price of BYD Atto 3 in Thailand is equivalent to over 800 million VND.

Volvo C40 Recharge/EX30

Volvo plans to sell compact electric SUVs in Vietnam by the end of this year. One of the speculated models is the C40 Recharge.

Volvo C40 Recharge is a coupe-style SUV. The car is over 4.44 meters long. The interior and exterior design of this model is similar to the XC40 currently sold in Vietnam but with a different sloping roofline.

The C40 Recharge engine is a 408 horsepower electric motor with all-wheel drive. The car battery allows for about 420 km of driving after a full charge.

The price of the C40 Recharge will not be cheap. In Thailand, this model has a price equivalent to 1.9 billion VND.

Volvo EX30 is the second rumored model to come to Vietnam. This car has a more modern design than the C40 Recharge. The size of the car is smaller with a length of just over 4.2 meters. The interior has an extremely minimalist design with a tablet-like screen in the middle.

The EX30 motor is a powerful 422 horsepower engine with all-wheel drive. The car battery allows for about 480 km of driving with the version with the highest range.

The price of the EX30 in Thailand is about 1.1 billion VND. This price will make it easier for Volvo EX30 to attract Vietnamese customers and compete with VinFast VF 6.
