Export of goods sees significant increase at the beginning of the year

According to the General Department of Customs, the total export value of goods in January reached nearly $33.6 billion, an increase of 42% compared to the same period last year, equivalent to an increase of $9.92 billion.

Import in January was estimated at $30.65 billion, up 4.2% (equivalent to an increase of $1.25 billion) compared to the previous month. Compared to the same period last year, imports in January this year are estimated to increase by 33.3% (equivalent to an increase of $7.66 billion).

With the dynamic trade activities taking place from the beginning of the year, the total import and export turnover in January is estimated at $64.2 billion, an increase of 37.7% (equivalent to an increase of $17.58 billion) compared to the same period last year. The trade balance in January is estimated to achieve a surplus of $2.92 billion.

Notably, the state budget revenue from import and export activities reached nearly VND 30,650 billion, reaching 8.2% of the plan, an increase of 13.2% compared to the same period last year.

Vietnam achieves nearly $3 billion trade surplus in January

According to the General Department of Customs, in January, the situation of smuggling and commercial fraud continued to have complex developments. In particular, the illegal transportation of explosives tended to increase, focusing in some localities such as Quang Tri, Nghe An, Lang Son… In which there was a case where individuals transported over 1,100 kg of explosives in Lang Son.

In addition, consumer goods and essential goods are also goods that are smuggled and illegally transported across the border, focusing in provinces such as Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Quang Tri, Lao Cai, Cao Bang…

According to the General Department of Customs, in January, the entire industry detected, seized, and handled 1,253 cases of violations, with an estimated value of more than VND 1,600 billion in violated goods. Customs authorities initiated 4 cases and recommended other agencies to initiate 9 cases. The amount of money paid to the state budget is nearly VND 23 billion.

The Customs sector has chaired and coordinated with the forces of the Police and Border Defense Force to detect and seize 38 cases/49 subjects of drug smuggling. The seized exhibits include: 800 grams of opium; 1.65 kg of marijuana; 14.6 kg of heroin; 12.6 kg and 900 ketamine tablets; 26.5 kg and 3 synthetic drug tablets…
