On February 8, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Phuc, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Lam Dong Province, presented a commendation decision to the police forces involved in the pursuit of the bank robber in Duc Trong district on the afternoon of February 7.

The perpetrator is Nguyen Thanh Trung (32 years old, from Ha Tinh; residing in Tam Bo commune, Di Linh district, Lam Dong province), who was arrested just 10 hours after the crime. The investigation agency also confiscated the gun that Trung used to rob and shoot at the bank’s security guards.
The leaders of the People’s Committee of Lam Dong Province highly appreciated the efforts of the Duc Trong district police and Lam Dong province police in quickly arresting the daring robber, recovering all the stolen assets, and contributing to maintaining security and order, ensuring safety for the people to celebrate Tet holiday.

According to the police, on the afternoon of February 7, Trung dressed in jeans, a coat, a face mask, and a backpack, and already had a gun on him when he arrived at a bank in Lien Nghia town. Inside, the suspect pulled out the gun to threaten a staff member and forced them to put money into the backpack for him.
Seeing that the staff member was slow in putting the money, Trung climbed inside and personally took several bundles of money to stuff into the backpack. After taking the money, Trung went outside and encountered a bank security guard. When challenged by the security guard, Trung fired the gun. Fortunately, the guard escaped death and only suffered minor injuries when the bullet grazed his chest. The robber then fled on his motorcycle.

The robber then ran into the Nam Son Lake area, changed from the Dream motorcycle used for the bank robbery to another motorcycle, changed all his clothes, backpack, and discarded all the items used during the crime into the lake. He chose routes without security cameras to avoid being tracked by authorities.
The leaders of the Lam Dong province police quickly arrived at the scene, directing the pursuit of the bank robber on the eve of the Lunar New Year. Many large and small roads were blocked by law enforcement forces to search for the robber.

Identifying Trung as the main suspect, the Duc Trong district police and Lam Dong province police continuously pursued him on various routes throughout the night. Two main pursuit teams discovered the suspect escaping by motorcycle on National Highway 1A from Ninh Thuan province towards Ho Chi Minh City, and he could potentially flee abroad afterward.
When passing through Ham Thuan Bac district (Binh Thuan province), Nguyen Thanh Trung was subdued and arrested by the police, recovering 3 billion Vietnamese Dong stolen from the bank earlier.
