Currently, there are 156 public bus routes in Hanoi, including 1 BRT bus route, 10 electric bus routes, 10 CNG bus routes, 112 regular bus routes, 8 unsubsidized routes, 12 feeder bus routes, and 3 City Tour routes.
The multimodal public transportation system also includes the urban railway line 2A Cat Linh – Ha Dong, and it is actively preparing to put the elevated railway line 3 from Nhon – Cau Giay into operation by 2024.
According to the Hanoi Department of Transportation, during the Tet holiday, there is an increased demand for bus and electric train services from both local and tourist passengers. Providing free tickets is an opportunity to promote the image of the capital city, the modern and convenient public transportation system, and attract people to use it.
According to Article 112 of the Labor Code, Vietnam currently has 11 official public holidays, including New Year’s Day (1 day), Lunar New Year (5 days), Hung Kings’ Commemoration (1 day), Reunification Day and Labor Day (2 days), and National Day (2 days).
Therefore, the Department of Transportation proposes to provide free tickets for bus and electric train services during the 11 Tet holidays.
