The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry and Trade have just reported on the market situation of Tet goods for the Year of the Horse. According to the report, there is an abundance of goods, weak purchasing power, and stable prices.
The Domestic Market Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) stated that on the 3rd day of the lunar new year, there was an abundant supply of goods. Many supermarkets, stores, and market stalls in traditional markets reopened for business, and trading activities were bustling. In the supermarket system, the supply of goods remains abundant and diverse, and the prices are stable compared to before Tet. In the traditional markets, in addition to fruits and vegetables for New Year offerings, the focus is mainly on fresh food such as seafood, beef, and various vegetables.
“On the 3rd day of the lunar new year, the prices of vegetables, flowers, and fresh food at the market did not increase much. The prices of fresh food such as beef and seafood are relatively stable compared to the 2nd day of Tet. Although the demand is starting to increase, the supply is relatively abundant, so there is no sudden price spike,” said the Domestic Market Department.
In the traditional markets, the prices are as follows: pork ranges from 120,000 to 150,000 VND/kg (depending on the type), ready-made local chicken is priced at 150,000 to 180,000 VND/kg; beef thigh costs 280,000 to 300,000 VND/kg. Shrimp is priced at 300,000 to 400,000 VND/kg, and carp ranges from 90,000 to 120,000 VND/kg.
The prices of vegetables and fruits are relatively stable. The prices of cabbage range from 12,000 to 15,000 VND/kg, carrots 5,000 to 7,000 VND/piece, tomatoes 14,000 to 20,000 VND/kg (depending on the region), oranges 50,000 to 70,000 VND/kg, pomelos 15,000 to 25,000 VND/fruit, chrysanthemums 5,000 to 7,000 VND/branch, roses with lucky branches 10,000 to 12,000 VND/branch, lilies and herbal flowers 25,000 to 35,000 VND/branch.
“The supply of food products has basically met the needs of consumers. The prices of goods at the supermarket system are stable. In the traditional markets, the prices of goods are stable compared to the days leading up to Tet and slightly higher than usual. In general, the market is developing according to normal rules, without shortages or price spikes, which would cause market instability,” said the Domestic Market Department.
Food pouring into wholesale markets increases sharply
The report on the market prices on the 3rd day of Tet by the Price Management Department (Ministry of Finance) also reflects similar results to the Domestic Market Department.
According to the Price Management Department, most supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City have reopened for business, such as Co.opmart, Aeon, Lotte Mart, Mega Market… In addition, traders in some markets have started selling to meet the needs of people as purchasing power has increased due to preparation for the Lunar New Year. People are mainly focusing on buying fresh food such as vegetables, fruits, flowers, and live food. The prices of essential goods such as grains and reduced-price food have gradually returned to normal.
The amount of goods pouring into wholesale markets such as Hoc Mon, Thu Duc, and Binh Dien has increased significantly compared to the 2nd day of Tet. Each market received an additional 50-90 tons of vegetables, fruits, and seafood compared to the 2nd day of Tet.
In traditional markets in Hanoi such as Tam Trinh – Hoang Mai Market, Van Chuong Market, Dong Da Market, Kim Quan Market – Long Bien, the prices of goods are stable compared to the 2nd day of Tet. Consumers’ demand is mainly focused on fresh items such as vegetables, seafood, and meat.
In Can Tho, many entertainment areas, tourist sites, and eateries remain open to serve the needs of local residents and tourists during the Lunar New Year. Based on that, they contribute to increasing the total retail sales of goods and service revenue in the area during the holiday.
In Lang Son, supermarkets have opened to serve the needs of the people. There is a diverse range of goods, so there is no shortage of goods or price fluctuations.
The Ministry of Finance stated that the prices of essential consumer goods on the 4th day of Tet have not experienced any abnormal fluctuations as the demand for shopping on the first day of the new year is still low. In addition, on the 4th day of Tet, many stalls at local markets will continue to open for business, and some supermarkets will officially resume operations (such as Winmart chains, convenience stores), making shopping activities more lively.
