Hanoi: 7-day Lunar New Year holiday boosts over 2,000 billion VND

Hanoi, during the 7-day Lunar New Year holiday of Giap Thin, welcomed a total of 653,000 visitors, generating a revenue of 2,350 billion VND from tourism activities. This marks a 35.1% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

On February 14 (the 5th day of the Lunar New Year), the Hanoi Department of Tourism announced that during this year’s Tet holiday, favorable weather conditions and various experiential activities at tourist sites have led to a significant increase in the number of tourists coming to Hanoi.

Specifically, in the 7-day period from February 8th to February 14th, 2024 (equivalent to December 29th to January 5th of the lunar calendar), domestic tourists are expected to reach 550,000, mostly tourists coming for Lunar New Year celebrations.

Meanwhile, the number of international tourists is expected to reach 103,000, a 2.2-fold increase compared to the same period in 2023. The majority of international tourists visiting the capital during the traditional Tet holiday come from South Korea, China, Taiwan, the United States, India, the United Kingdom, France, etc.

During the 7-day Lunar New Year holiday in 2024, Hanoi is expected to welcome 653,000 visitors, a 21.6% increase compared to the same period last year.

Many destinations in Hanoi have recorded record tourist numbers during this period, such as Hương Sơn Heritage Site attracting 80,600 visitors; Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám with over 106,000 visitors; Thăng Long Imperial Citadel receiving over 48,700 visitors; Cổ Loa Citadel with 25,000 visitors; Chùa Tây Phương receiving over 32,000 visitors; Hỏa Lò Prison with 13,000 visitors; Hanoi Zoo with over 31,000 visitors; Ba Vì National Park with over 10,000 visitors…

Many attractive activities for tourists, such as the “Dragon Painting” art exhibition, the “2024 Street Festival”, and the “Northwestern Spring Fragrance” event at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, have been organized to showcase and introduce the traditional Tet festival of the Northern Delta region, attracting a large number of visitors.

During the Lunar New Year, various cultural and artistic activities are being held at tourist attractions in Hanoi, especially the New Year’s Eve at Ho Gươm Cultural Information Center; Traditional music and art performances in the ancient quarters of Hanoi from the 2nd to the 5th day of the Lunar New Year.

Of particular note, the “Radiant Thăng Long” Hanoi Light Festival featuring a light show with 2,024 drones with the theme “A Capital Day – A Thousand Years of History” at West Lake has attracted a large number of local residents and visitors on New Year’s Eve.

Đặng Hương Giang, Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, stated that the department has conducted an inspection of compliance with legal regulations in the tourism sector during the Lunar New Year in the city. The inspection team has carried out checks at several tourist destinations with a high number of tourists.

Through the checks, the tourism establishments, businesses, organizations, and individuals operating in Hanoi have proactively improved the quality of tourism products and services, developed new products that meet the needs and preferences of tourists, and enhanced epidemic prevention and control measures to ensure security, order, and the safety of tourists.

In 2024, Hanoi aims to welcome 26.5 million visitors (a 10.4% increase compared to 2023), including 5 million international visitors (3.2 million with overnight stays) and 21.5 million domestic visitors. The total tourism revenue is expected to reach about 99,770 billion VND.

In Khanh Hoa province, during the 5 days from February 9th to February 13th (from the 30th day of the last lunar month to the 4th day of the Lunar New Year), over 630,000 visitors came to the province, including over 190,000 overnight visitors, with tourism revenue estimated at nearly 880 billion VND (a 35% increase compared to last year)

The average room occupancy rate of accommodation establishments was about 79.58%, with high levels of occupancy from the 2nd to the 5th day of the Lunar New Year, with room occupancy rates above 80% in some centrally located hotels and 4 – 5 star resorts in coastal areas reaching more than 90%.

Nha Trang City’s famous attractions attracted a large number of visitors during the peak period of the Lunar New Year, from the 2nd to the 4th day. Specifically, there were over 7,000 visitors departing each day for tours to explore the islands and beaches of Nha Trang Bay. The Ponagar Tower attracted from 6,000 to 9,000 visitors per day…

During this period, there were more than 300 flights (an average of 65 flights per day) to Cam Ranh International Airport bringing tourists to Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa for sightseeing and vacation. Among them, there were about 25 domestic flights and 40 international flights.

In terms of railway transportation, in addition to regular daily train services, there are 8 additional trains between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to serve tourists. Moreover, the Nha Trang – Cam Lam Expressway and Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet Expressway have been put into operation, facilitating the movement of tourists by private vehicles.

According to Nguyễn Thị Lệ Thanh, Director of the Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism, during the Tet holiday, the province has organized numerous major events for local residents and tourists at 2/4 Square.

In addition to events organized by the province, localities, associations, and businesses have also held various culinary, cultural, entertainment, and sports programs to attract tourists during the Lunar New Year holiday. “Despite the high number of tourists, the tourism security and order of Khanh Hoa province has been good, and tourism businesses have strictly adhered to regulations,” said Thanh.
