According to the Customs Department of the Lao Cai Border Gate, on the first day of the new year 2024, the activities of import and export of goods, as well as immigration across the border at the Lao Cai Border Gate, were lively and smooth due to the preparations made by the border authorities of both sides to facilitate these activities.
In the early morning of the Lunar New Year, the import and export shipments were cleared through the Kim Thanh Border Gate.

Agricultural products mainly accounted for the goods exported through the northern border gates in the new year.
At the Lao Cai International Border Gate, as soon as the border gate opened, Vietnamese and Chinese citizens were among the first to go through the customs procedures for both exit and entry. In particular, there were many tour groups queuing up to cross the border for Lunar New Year trips.
The Customs Department of Lao Cai reported that during the 3 days of the Lunar New Year, 40 businesses registered to file customs declarations for import and export of goods, which was a significant increase compared to previous years. This was mainly due to the suspension of operations at the border gates in Lang Son, prompting many fruit products to be exported through the Lao Cai Border Gate. The total value of import and export, trade, and exchange of goods through the border gates in the province in January 2024 reached nearly USD 183 million.
Also in January, the functional units of Lao Cai province issued certificates of origin for over 16,000 tonnes of goods, including dragon fruit, watermelon, banana, jackfruit, tapioca starch, dried sliced cassava, cinnamon essential oil, durian, coffee beans, and purple sweet potato, with a value of USD 24 million. On average, over 300 trucks carrying import and export goods go through the customs procedures at the border gate each day. Currently, there are about 600 businesses registered to engage in import-export activities through the Lao Cai Border Gate.
