In some localities such as Da Nang and Lang Son, people visit temples and pagodas at the beginning of the year to pray for good luck. Outside the temples and pagodas, there are small stalls selling incense, offerings, and fruits. The prices for ceremonial items such as incense double compared to normal days. The prices of flowers and fruits also increase by around 5-10% due to limited supply.
The price for motorcycle parking at some small temples is 10,000 VND per vehicle.
The Ministry of Finance predicts that on the 2nd day of the Lunar New Year, entertainment spots in big cities will attract a large number of visitors for sightseeing and entertainment. This may cause the prices of services such as parking and dining to increase compared to normal days. The prices of goods increase to cover the costs for workers who work extra during the Tet holidays.
Some shopping centers remain open during the Tet holidays to serve the people. At wholesale markets in Ho Chi Minh City, some small traders open their shops mainly selling vegetables, fruits, and spices. The number of customers coming to the market is very low, mainly to buy additional products that are still missing, such as herbs and spices.
The prices of essential consumer goods on the 2nd day of the Tet holidays do not have any unusual fluctuations due to the lower demand for shopping on the first day of the year. Most people have already done their shopping and stockpiled enough before Tet.
In some large provinces and cities, some supermarkets and stores are expected to reopen to serve the demand for essential goods, so the supply of goods will be sufficient,” forecasted by the Price Management Department.
