Young people choose “new style” New Year gifts for parents

The choice of Tet gifts for young people this year has changed. They are striving and making more effort to give their parents and themselves practical and valuable gifts such as savings books, gold jewelry, or life insurance packages.

In 2023, it was a challenging year for the economy. Tightening spending and allocating finances reasonably are ways that many young people have to come up with. However, even though they went through a year of challenges, young people still want to choose a Tet gift for their family and themselves as a way to show filial piety to their parents and acknowledge their months and years of striving.

A box of candy or a branch of apricot blossom is also good. That is the heart of the children. However, after going through 2 years of Covid-19 epidemic, followed by an unstable year economically, young people have changed their thinking, aiming for more practical values. Tet is no longer defined by a high tray filled with food or a brightly decorated house. Instead, they put more effort and try harder to give a savings book, a golden necklace, or a health care insurance package for their parents.

Those gifts not only have material meaning, they are “reserved” for sure for parents as they grow older, but also have spiritual significance, making parents more reassured about the maturity of their children. It is also a way for young people to start building a solid financial foundation for both their parents and themselves in the present and future.

In addition to gifts for their parents, young people also give themselves a savings book as a reward for themselves after a year of hard work. At the age of 30, Ngoc Van (28 years old, Hanoi) understood more and more that accumulating financial resources for oneself is an important goal. This is the starting point for the journey of personal financial freedom, and even closer is a way to ensure a stable life with a solid financial basis.

Tran Khac Thanh (33 years old, Ho Chi Minh City) also chose to set aside 30% of total savings for the year to open 2 savings books, one for his father and one for himself. Admitting that he is not a savvy investor, Thanh turned to saving as a safe investment channel and as a stepping stone for building a healthy personal financial plan. And savings are the “launchpad” for safe accumulation for a large investment in the future.

Many young people also said that, in addition to safety, the choice of depositing savings during Tet always receives many incentives if calculating. Banks continuously launch a variety of deposit products with attractive interest rates and gifts.

Based on a survey on the gifting psychology of young people, Sacombank recently launched the Tet program: “Ngàn lộc phát – Vạn điều may”. A series of attractive incentives throughout Tet are for customers depositing savings.

Specifically, Sacombank specially gives a large lucky money gift to customers who deposit savings at Sacombank branches nationwide within three days after returning to work after Tet Giap Thin 2024 (the 6th, 7th, 10th day of the first lunar month) with an amount of up to 2 million VND. Lucky money envelopes worth 50,000 VND will also be given to new customers or customers who deposit money into the Phu Dong Savings Account, Flexible Accumulative Savings Account.

In addition, until the end of February 2024, individual customers depositing savings with a term of 100 million VND or depositing money into the Flexible Accumulative Savings Account/Future Deposit Account with a minimum of 5 million VND on Sacombank’s online channels will have an additional chance to receive 68,000 VND lucky money.
