On the first day of trading after the Lunar New Year holiday in 2024, the Vietnamese stock market witnessed a positive session with the green color maintained throughout the trading session. At the end of the session, the Vn-Index increased by 3.97 points (+0.33%) officially surpassing the 1,202 level. The liquidity improved and remained good with a trading value on the HOSE exchange exceeding 18,000 billion Vietnamese dong.
The number of stocks that increased dominated over the number of stocks that decreased. Specifically, on the HOSE exchange, there were 321 stocks that increased while 153 stocks decreased, HNX had 106 stocks that increased and 56 stocks that decreased, and Upcom had 192 stocks that increased and 66 stocks that decreased.
On the HOSE exchange, there were 9 limit-up stocks today. Among them, MSB stock of Viet Nam Maritime Commercial Joint Stock Bank was the only banking stock to hit the limit-up. In today’s trading session, the price of MSB stock increased sharply from the beginning of the session and quickly reached the limit-up price at the end of the morning session. At the same time, the liquidity of MSB stock also increased dramatically with a trading volume of over 35 million shares. MSB stock has increased sharply since the end of December. From the beginning of the year until now, the price of MSB stock has increased nearly 16%.
Two other limit-up stocks with a total trading volume of over 1 million shares today were Gilimex (GIL) and First Real Estate (FIR).
Before the Lunar New Year, TDW stock of Thu Duc Water Supply Joint Stock Company hit the floor with only 100 shares, and after the holiday, it hit the limit-up again with only 100 shares.
On the HNX exchange, there were fewer limit-up stocks compared to the HOSE with 8 stocks hitting the limit-up. Half of these stocks had a trading volume ranging from 100 to 300 shares. TVC was the only stock with a trading volume of over 1 million shares.
The pair of stocks from Tri Viet Group, TVC – TVB, both hit the limit-up in today’s session. Since the beginning of the year, TVC has increased by 25% and TVB has increased by 40%.
On the Upcom exchange, there were also 9 limit-up stocks. Notably, EME stock of Electric Machine Joint Stock Company increased by 40%. The reason why EME stock increased so much was because there had been no trading activity since December 26th. Normally, this stock often does not have any trading or if there is, it is only a few hundred shares.
